In the 2022 version of the Caribbean Premier League, seven games have been played so far and four of them have been affected by showers. Two of these rain-curtailed games had to be abandoned without a single ball being bowled. The league now goes into its second phase and shifts to St Lucia for a few games coming up. Here on, the competition will move to Trinidad and will end up in Guyana. The upcoming 8 games of CPL, 2022 will be played at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in the city of Gros Islet in St Lucia. Both Barbados Royals and Trinbago teams have a powerful team that boasts of some big-hitting batsmen in the line-up.

The venue is famous for offering a bit for both batters and bowlers. This match promises to be an exciting one as we have players such as Mayers, Cornwall, and Miller on one team and Tim Seifert, Russell, and Pollard on the other. But in the bowling department the four-time title winners Trinbago hold an edge on the relatively inexperienced team of Barbados Royals.

BR vs TKR Team Previews

Barbados Royals

Barbados Royals won their second game of the season in their last outing with Kyle Mayers providing an all-round performance for his side. The 29-year-old batting all-rounder appears to be in terrific shape right from the word go. Mayers and Rakheem Cornwall make a tremendous opening pair. In their last couple of outings, they have scored 64 and 49 runs respectively for the opening wicket stand. This new change of venue can result in making things a bit easier for the middle-order batsmen because they are yet to make their presence felt in the competition.

Azam Khan, Harry Tector, and Quinton de Kock have all failed to make significant contributions from their outings so far in the tournament. Miller took himself down the order in the last match as he came in to bat at the number six slot to score 25 runs from 15 balls. In reality, Miller is a terrific number four alternative for any T20 team in the world. But this move can be a strategy for testing out Harry Tector and Azam Khan in the team middle order. This is possible because these are early days yet in CPL 2022.

But all-in-all, it might not be a good idea for Barbados Royals to go for too much experimentation. They will not be looking to waste a side with such potential on experimentation. They will have to keep a few players at regular positions in the batting order. The players need to adapt to their newfound roles as quickly as possible. The bowling attack for the Royals is likely to be in the hands of bowlers such as Obed McCoy, K Mayers, Jason Holder, Ramon Simmonds, and Joshua Bishop.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Kieron Pollard will be keen to get his team right back onto the ground and play top-quality cricket. After registering their first victory of the season, the Knight Riders were ready to square off against the defending champions at the Warner Park stadium. But the rain came down and played spoilsport. The match had to be abandoned without a single ball being bowled. This can have a significant impact on the player's momentum as there is almost a week's gap before the team had its last outing before this game.

Knight Riders had to face some problems in the middle order in the 2021 season. It looks as if those problems will haunt the team again this year. Tim Seifert will take on the sheet anchor role again while operating in the middle order. But, others such as Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran will not hang around the crease for long and try to build an innings. Nicholas Pooran has a natural game that is an attacking one. It doesn’t matter to him what kind of bowlers are bowling or what the match situation is.

This has also been the approach of the Windies batters in recent T20 internationals. Most of their batters are famous for their capability to hit the ball out of the park. But, at the moment Knight Riders appear to be short on cricketers that can tune their batting effort as per the need of the hour. But the Trinbago bowling attack has a lot of experience, variety, and talent. They can easily offset the TKR plans even at the top of the order. Bowlers such as Sunil Narine, Shaaron Lewis, Anderson Phillip, and Akeal Hosein can upset any batting order.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather for this game is pretty much likely to remain the same as what it was at the first venue. You can expect a bit of drizzle coming down on the match day in St Lucia. The wicket at the Gros Islet will offer assistance to the quicker bowlers but it is not a high-scoring pitch by any standards.

The National Cricket Stadium named after the great cricketer Darren Sammy has thus far hosted 18 T20 internationals. The average first innings total at the ground is 160 runs. In the domestic T20 games this average first innings total is about the same. Just nine out of 27 T20 games played at the venue have witnessed a side scoring in the excess of 170 runs or above.

BR vs TKR Betting Tips

Both these sides have a powerful and well-balanced unit. They have several talented and experienced batsmen in all the roles. The Trinbago Knight Riders are more likely to face some issues in the middle order. However, they also have some great and reliable T20 finishers on their side. The inexperienced bowling attack of Barbados Royals can be a bit of a problem for the side as they take on the mighty side of Knight Riders. All-in-all it is likely that Knight Riders will edge out Royals. We will bet with Knight riders to win this game.
