About the Match
The team from down-under, Brisbane Heat, has had a disappointing series and will now come face to face with Sunrisers Hyderabad on 30th September, which has had a better run with 4 points in its bag. It was heartening to see Brisbane putting up a brave front against CSK but in the end it was their lack of experience that’s got them knocked out of the tournament. Sunrisers failed again, this time against the Titans and lost the chance to make it to the next stage. Though both teams are out of the running for a semi-final berth, they will look for some redemption in their final match of the league.
The top order collapsed without a fight and it was left to the youngsters to put up a decent total of 137 runs. Lynn kept his wicket when others fell like a pack of cards, scoring 29 runs before falling. It was then left to Hartley and Cutting to save the team from an embarrassing situation. Hartley scored 35 off 32 balls and provided the required support to Cutting, who brilliantly smashed away 5 sixes towards the end of the innings to build a score of an unbeaten 42. Score of 137 was never going to be enough against the formidable CSK; however, the bowlers tried their best to remove the opposing batsmen without much luck. Cutting and Christian’s efforts were hardly enough to win them the match. This young team has picked up many lessons here and will look to bow out on a winning note.
The team excelled in the qualifying stage but failed to repeat its brilliant performance when it was required the most. Against Titans, the gaps in the batting line-up were clearly visible as the middle order collapsed under pressure. Patel and Dhawan built a respectable partnership of 63 runs and almost appeared to be an unbeatable pair, when Dhawan got out at 37. Duminy supported Patel for a short time before getting bowled out by Lange. Perera couldn’t come to the rescue with either bat or the ball this time around and the bowlers failed to defend the total of 145 runs. Though Ishant and Steyn claimed a wicket each, the team had already lost the plot leading to a disappointing loss. From here on, it will be only a face-saving effort as the other teams are much better placed on the point table. It needs to be seen if Sunrisers can play some competitive cricket in their last outing.
It will be a battle of nerves for the youngsters from both squads and the team that keeps a cool head will emerge victorious. Sunrisers have much better experience and have performed well with both bat and ball whereas Brisbane has the fighting spirit and will go all out in this last match. Though the match is expected to be full of thrilling moments, I suspect that Sunrisers will surely make it home comfortably in the end.
