We are past the midway mark in the Caribbean Premier League and things the points table is finally beginning to take up the shape. Trinbago Knight Riders are way ahead of all other teams in the competition and their qualification looks almost certain. Following them on the ladder is St Lucia Zouks, who would be looking to get another win to ensure their easy qualification for the semifinals. St Lucia Zouks play their next game against Barbados Tridents, who is coming off a superb win over Jamaica Tallawahs but is to play against Trinbago Knights before locking horns with the Zouks. The match between the two sides will be played at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday, 30th August 2020.
Barbados Tridents, the defending champions, started the tournament as one of the favorites to all the way, but have massively underperformed in the first half of the competition. They have one of the best spin attacks with the likes of Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner, but apart from the duo, not one has been consistent enough to drag Barbados Tridents to winning positions. Consequently, they are placed the third spot - tied with Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs, with only their superior net run-rate keeping them afloat in the top half of the points table.
After exhibiting a lacklustre show in the competition, the Tridents put together a brilliant performance against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, riding mainly on their superb bowling performance. Batting first on a slowing surface, Barbados Tridents never got going, and had it not been for Kyle Mayers' superb knock, they would have struggled to get to a fighting total. Mayers scored 85 runs, hitting seams without a fuss. However, like most of the other batsmen, he, too, struggled against the spinners. The Tridents' spinners assumed control there as defending a total of 148, they restricted the Tallawahs to a total of just 112.
In the tournament so far, Barbados Tridents' spin attack has arguably been the best among all teams in the competition. With two leg-spinners and a left-arm orthodox spinner in Mitchell Santner, the Tridents certainly have all the firepower needed to thrive on a slow and low surface. Just like the Zouks, Tridents, too, have a proactive captain in Jason Holder, who himself has made an immense contribution. All in all, Barbados Tridents' batting has although struggled in the tournament, their bowling has been brilliant. If they improve their batting going forward, they certainly have a side that can beat even the best in the business.
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Corey Anderson, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Nyeem Young, Rashid Khan, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh Jr, Joshua Bishop.
St Lucia Zouks was far from favorites to finish among the top four teams, let alone finish in the top two. However, with fantastic wins against a few of the potent sides of the competition, they find themselves well placed at the second spot on the ladder. The Zouks have won four out of their six completed matches and have a net run-rate second only to Trinbago Knight Riders.
St Lucia Zouks was low on specialist resources and relied heavily on exuberance of youth in the bowling department. Zouks' bowlers and all-rounders have so far paid rich dividents for the confidence the Zouks' management had in them. Mohammad Nabi's talent and abilities are known widely across the globe and his impact on the Zouks' success has been colossal. He has contributed with the bat as well as ball both and his five-wicket haul in the last match was the sole reason of Zouks posting a mighty blow to the Patriots in their previous match.
Another all-rounder who has made his presence felt after being dismissed as a test specialist is Roston Chase. Chase, just like Nabi, has impressed in both departments of the game. He was instrumental in getting St Lucia Zouks to get their first few wins, that is before Mohammad Nabi joined the party. While the Zouks do not have any of the mystery spinners available at its disposal, their orthodox spinners have done exceedingly well. With Scott Kuggeleijn doing a great job in picking up wickets during death overs as well as the powerplay overs, the Zouks seems to have all their bases covered.
Although Daren Sammy hasn't been bowling in the competition and his batting has been far from influencial, his contribution cannot be ignored. Sammy has been brilliant in marshaling his troops and making the best use of the resources. His experience of winning T20 titles across the globe has tremendously helped the team. With strong leadership and an immaculate side, St Lucia Zouks appears to be a strong contender to go all in the competition.

This is a day game and with the sun beating down, batting will get difficult with every passing over. There will be no dew and hence the team batting second is unlikely to have any advantage whatsoever. We expect the captain of the team winning toss to consider those factors and elect to bat after winning the toss.

This match is the second-last on the ground before we move back to Tarouba. The surface at Queen's Park Oval has slowed down immensely and hitting through the line will not be easy. Considering that the sky is likely to stay clear, which will make the surface drier, spinners are likely to dominate yet again and chasing a total of even 150 could be challenging. Also, scoring in the powerplay overs would be the easiest and we can expect the top-order of both sides to use that to their advantage.

On paper, there aren't a lot of dissimilarities between the two sides. Both teams have a couple of excellent spinners, who have been brilliant in the tournament. Besides, the top-order of both sides seems to be a little fragile and that could be a differentiating factor in the upcoming contest. With a couple of in-form all-rounders and a batting lineup that goes deep, we think that the Zouks are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
Our Favorite Bets
Player's Total Runs - Shai Hope - 50 Runs - No, 1.22 @ 1xBet
While Shai Hope is a remarkable player and has a terrific record in the fifty-over format, he hasn't looked comfortable in the tournament so far. He has gotten some starts but hasn't converted those to any big knock, yet. Much of that had to do with the nature of the surface and his natural game. Shai Hope isn't known to be a power-hitter and relies heavily on his timing. On a surface that gets incredibly hard to time the ball on in the middle-overs, Shai Hope has found scoring difficult. We expect the same to happen again and this bet on Shai Hope to perish before scoring a fifty seems to be a pretty safe proposition.
Player To Score Six And Out - Mohammad Nabi Six And Out, 4 @ 1xBet
Generally, Mohammad Nabi gets ample time to spend in the middle and then go after the bowling. Even if he doesn't, given the striker he is, hitting a six shouldn't really be a problem for him considering the form he's been. Having said that, the surface is unlikely to be optimal to hit shots and he will most likely get out after getting a few out of the park. This is certainly a bet with a favorable risk-reward ratio on offer.
Highest Opening Partnership - Barbados Tridents, 1.73 @ 1xBet
With Johnson Charles in fine form and Shai Hope a safe starter, we do not expect the Tridents to lose a wicket in the first couple of overs. On the other hand, the Zouks are likely to take some risks in the early overs and that makes them more vulnerable to lose a quick wicket. Betting on Barbados Tridents' pair to score more than that of St Lucia Zouks' should be the way to go.
