About the Match
The KPL continues to roll on and gather momentum as the teams start to get their acts together. This match is going to be played between the Bijapur Bulls, who lost narrowly to the Mysuru Warriors in their first match, and Namma Shivamoga, who are yet to play a single ball in this tournament thanks to their last match being rained out.
The Bulls had an excellent chance to cause an early upset in the tournament by beating the favorites, Mysuru Warriors, in their first match. As things turned out, the Bijapur Bulls fell just 4 runs short of the target and were left to rue some lost chances.
Their top-3 batsmen did not score too many runs putting pressure on the middle order which performed admirably under the circumstances. A lot was expected of Mohammad Taha, Bharat Chipli, and MG Naveen before the tournament but it was the duo of Negi and Nidesh that kept the Bulls in the game and with a shot.
Both Negi and Nidesh got out just when the target looked within reach and that is something that will hurt them in the time to come. The bowling for the Bulls was led by Mithun and More, who took 6 wickets between them.
More with 4 to his name was the standout performer with the ball and outshone some of the better-known names in his team. With KC Cariappa also a part of this bowling lineup, the Bulls looks to have covered most of the bases.
There are plenty of wicket taking options in this Bulls bowling attack and we expect them to give a tough time to opposition batting units in this tournament.
The players from Namma Shivamogga would be itching to get on the field and show what they can do because as much as this tournament is about winning, it is also about showcasing your talent to potential scouts and selectors for the bigger tournaments.
Shivamogga has put together an impressive squad for this year’s tournament as they followed a strategy of not really going after big national names in the auction but to try and get as many good local players as possible.
The likes of Abrar Kazi, Anirudh Joshi, Pradeep T and Jonathan R makes this a very useful lineup. There is also the oldest player in the league, B Akhil, who will try and guide this team bringing all his experience into play.
Shivamogga will try and chase down scored as much as possible with their team composition which has prioritized building team around gun bowlers.
The massive change in personnel will be a tough ask for the team management and there could be some starting jitters as well but we expect Namma Shivamogga to be one of the teams fighting it out in the semi finals this year.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Mysuru is good for batting but incessant rain has made it difficult for the groundsman to work on the pitch. This could lead to some amount of inconsistent bounce being seen in the match. The weather forecast is once again for plenty of rain on match day so we could see another curtailed game being played out.
