About the Match
Cape Cobras will host the Dolphins at the Finals match of the Ram Slam T20 challenge on Feb 9th at Cape Town; the Dolphins defeated the Titans in the semi-final match to get here whereas the hosts had booked their spot in the finals after finishing on top of the table in the league stage. The two sides have performed very well in the series; the Cobras accumulated 34 points while the Dolphins weren’t far behind with 28 points at the end of the league matches and this clash will see the best team emerge victorious on Sunday.
JP Duminy posted an unbeaten 64 runs off 39 deliveries to take the team through to finals by defeating the Warriors by 6 wickets; facing a target of 147 runs, he partnered with Stiaan van Zyl to post a 46 run stand while his 5th wicket partnership with Kemp added 42 runs more to win the match. While the openers have not been consistent with their performance and failed to contribute big runs, the middle order is quite strong and will need to repeat their skills. Beuran Hendricks took 3 wickets to stagger the opponents while Narine contributed with 2 wickets; Duminy and Kemp showed an all-round performance by taking a wicket each and they will be key resources in the finals too. Overall, the team has a good mix of talent and experience and with their extraordinary record this season, they look confident to bring the title home.
David Miller blasted away 93 runs off just 37 deliveries to help the team post 200 runs in the semi-finals against the Titans; he smashed away 9 sixes and 6 fours to punish the bowlers and put up a tough challenge for the opponents thus claiming victory by 31 runs in the end. While the openers Delport and Morne van Wyk had posted a 51-run partnership, things started looking good with Miller’s contribution and the bowlers successfully defended the total, getting the Titans all-out in 19.2 overs. Shezi was magnificent with 4 wickets while Frylinck contributed with 3 wickets to demolish the Titans’ batting line-up. The tight bowling unit will be key in tomorrow’s match while the batsmen will need to repeat their brilliance against the stiff competition from the Cobras; the batting has shown tremendous improvement and they show a lot of promise going into the finals. While the team has done very well to make it here, they need to focus and bring out the best in tomorrow’s match as well.
Both teams are equally matched in terms of player forms and all-round contributions from the players; while they both have established players and the required confidence, the contest will not be an easy one. Though the Dolphins have shown exemplary performance and great determination throughout the series; the Cobras, who have the home advantage and a good set of talented players, look well placed to bring home the trophy.
