About the Match
Emerging at the top of the points table with 33 points, Cape Cobras have already made it to the finals of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge but play one last league match on 3rd Dec against Warriors, who are out of the competition. Winning against Knights by a close margin of 8 runs, the Cobras reigned supreme and will be eager to continue with their winning momentum; the Warriors too won their last match against Titans by 20 runs thanks to a combined bowling effort. Both sides will come out all guns blazing on Wednesday; it needs to be seen if the Warriors are able to overcome the Cobras this time and avenge their humiliating defeat last week.
Putting up a strong 145-run total against the Knights, the batsmen built strong partnerships; Levi looks good as the opener and his thunderous 64 off 61 gave a solid foundation for the team batting first. Earlier too against Warriors, he posted a brilliant 76 off 53 to exhibit his batting skills, which is a key asset for them; Puttick is also in very good form and needs to be consistent. Ramela and Pollard can give good company in the middle order while players like Vilas, Ontong and others must ensure to keep the scoreboard ticking. On the bowling front, Robin Peterson is in good shape and his 3-21 brought victory against the Knights in a close encounter; Linde and Engelbrecht have also been regularly contributing with wickets while Shezi, Paterson and Adams bring variety with their pace. Overall, the team has nothing to lose in the upcoming match and they will charge ahead stronger to keep their confidence high before the finals.
While they won the previous match against Titans by a good margin, their last encounter with the Cobras had ended in a massive defeat by 72 runs; they need to pull themselves up and come up with a winning performance here. The opening batsmen have been struggling to build a foundation either in chasing or setting a target and the middle order needs to prepare itself for the Cobras’ onslaught. Ingram played well in the last match, scoring 40 off 44 while Jonker also contributed with a well-made 49 off 29; in the previous match, it was Bailey, Jonker and harmer who had built the innings from scratch but with other batsmen crumbling under pressure, the team had lost the match against Cobras. Their bowling department did well against Titans with Theron, Vallie, Smuts, Harmer and Walters bringing out their skills to the forefront; however, they need to come up with a special effort against Cobras.
The Cobras have lost only one match so far in the series and by booking the berth for finals they are jubilant at the moment; the Warriors face their last game of this season after suffering several defeats but they will try their best to win before bowing out. While the match could sway either way, we feel the Cobras will continue with their superb performance and emerge victorious.
