The Challengers are going through a very lean patch in form and have now lost 4 consecutive matches as they enter this contest. With just 4 points in 8 matches, they are 6th on the points table, trailing 4th placed Rangpur Riders by 4 points. With just 4 matches to go in the group stage, including this game, time is quickly running out for the Challengers to qualify for the next round.

Their most recent encounter, against Fortune Barishal, went down the wire as the latter chased down the target of 169 in the very last over. The Challengers will however take some positives from this thrilling encounter. Curtis Campher, playing his first match of the season, played an excellent cameo of 45 from just 25 deliveries, while Nihaduzzaman bowled an inspiring spell of 4 for 17 from his 4 overs to give his team a fighting chance right till the final over.

The team will once again rely on Afif Hossain and Shuvagata Hom to lend support in the middle order while Mehedi Hasan Rana and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury will lead the bowling attack. 

Sylhet Strikers

The Sylhet Strikers have been one of the most consistent teams in this season of the BPL and have spent quite some time at the top of the table. However, there has been a dip in its performance during the last few games, causing them to lose 2 of its last 3 matches, including the most recent game played against the Rangpur Riders. In that game, the batsmen had an off day as only 2 of the eleven players managed to reach double figures and the Strikers were able to set a meager target of 93.

At one stage, Sylhet was 7 wickets down with just 18 runs on the board, but a 48-run partnership between Tanzim Hasan Sakib and captain Mashrafe Mortaza helped them get to a respectable total.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy have been the mainstays of the Strikers’ batting this season. However, going forward, the other batsmen, including Mushfiqur Rahim and Zakir Hasan will have to play a larger role if the team wants to reclaim the number 1 spot. Mortaza bowled a good spell of 2 wickets for 18 runs in the last match and is the leading wicket-taker for the team.

Mohammad Amir and Rejaur Rahman have bowled pretty well too, picking up 10 wickets each. The spinners, barring Imad Wasim, have failed to create any impact on the opposition batsmen.
