While we witnessed bowlers thrive in the first week of the Bangladesh Premier League, the second week of the tournament has started off from the exact opposite end. Chattogram Challengers have been involved in two high-scoring matches, with over 400 runs scored in total in each of the two matches. Chattogram Challengers batted first in both of those and posted a mammoth total on each occasion. They are set to take field once again in the tournament, this time against Rangpur Rangers, in a match that is set to be played on 21st December at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. Rangpur Rangers have undoubtedly been the worst side of the tournament so far and will be looking to kick-start their campaign in this upcoming contest.
Chattogram Challengers have played most number of matches in the tournament so far, but their top of the table is not because of only that. They have been consistent, ruthless, and determined, and are consequently placed at the top spot on the table. With 10 points to their name and a net run-rate of 0.169.
After a win over Dhaka Platoons in a high-scoring contest, the Challengers posted yet another huge total, more than what they posted against the Platoons. Despite losing the toss and then losing Lendl Simmons early in the innings, the Challengers' didn't stop. Avishka Fernando and Imrul Kayes combined to take them in the driving seat before Chadwick Walton unleashed a flurry of sixes over Comilla Warriors. Walton scored 71 runs off 27 deliveries, including five fours and six sixes.
As was the case in the previous match, their bowlers first drove them into a position to dictate terms, but then lost the grip in the death overs. It was a commendable effort from Warriors to get to a total of 222-runs despite losing three wickets inside the powerplay. For Chattogram, all the bowlers except Mehedi Hasan Rana and Rubel Hossain were taken apart for plenty. Mehedi Hasan Rana returned with the figures of 28 for 4 in his four overs. After Rubel Hossain and Mehedi Hasan Rana, Kesrick Williams was their best bowler, who conceded as many as 51 runs in his four and picked up only one wicket. All other bowlers were expensive than him.
LMP Simmons, Avishka Fernando, Imrul Kayes, CAK Walton, Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, LE Plunkett, Muktar Ali, Rubel Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Rana.
The Rangers do not have a lot of time remanining at their hands. They have lost all four matches in the tournament so far and need to get back to the winning ways unless they want to see themselves eliminated early. Apart from having no wins to their name, they have a net run-rate of -2.447, which could be a matter of concern should Rangers somehow manage to take their campaign deep.
Rangpur Rangers' batting has been pretty inconsistent, to say the least. They were bundled out for just 68 runs in their first match and although they followed it up with a much improved performance in their next match, their bowling failed to contain Chattagram Challengers.
In their most recent encounter, which was against Khulna Tigers, both their batting as well as bowling failed to fire as they lost the match in 12.3 overs after their batsmen had put up a poor show. Their batsmen could score just 137 runs in the first innings and lost 9 wickets in the process. All in all, Rangpur Rangers aren't as bad a team as their standings in the table suggest, but given their performances in the tournament so far, it won't be easy for them to bounce back from here.
Shadman Islam, Mohammad Naim, TB Abell, C Delport, Lewis Gregory, Jahurul Islam, Fazle Mahmud, Mohammad Nabi, Mustafizur Rahman, Sanjit Saha, Mukidul Islam.
Check out the Dream11 Prediction for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League contest between Chattogram Challengers and Rangpur Rangers
The two teams are placed at the opposite ends of the ladder and while the contest between the two teams is being shrugged off as a mismatch by many, any result is possible. Chattogram Challenger have been brilliant with the bat so far, but their bowling has shown vulnerabilities. Ranpur Rangers, on the other hand, have failed to impress in all aspects of the game. Comparing the two sides on the basis of recent performances and teams on paper, the Challengers are a better side, and, therefore, our pick as the probable winners in the upcoming fixture.
