The Chittagong Vikings laid to rest any doubt about their qualification for the BPL playoffs with a win in their previous match. It was an important result that broke the losing streak they seemed to be on and will allow them to press for a top-2 finish from here on in. Their opponents for this match are the Sylhet Sixers who put up an impressive performance but went down to the Rajshahi Kings.
The Sylhet Sixers are out of the running for a BPL playoff spot but they will certainly want to end with a win to their name. Their recent upsurge in form has also left them with the faintest chance of finishing fifth in the final tally.
A very good showing by the Chittagong Vikings in their last match saw them emerge victorious over the Dhaka Dynamites. It was a complete team effort from the Chittagong Vikings as their batsmen put up a challenging total and then their bowlers responded with an excellent performance to limit the strong Dhaka Dynamites batting.
Cameron Delport scored 71 to top-score for the Chittagong Vikings with four sixes and a strike rate of 124.56. He was helped by some quick cameos from Mohammad Shahzad and Mushfiqur Rahim. Yasir Ali and even Sikandar Raza, in the end, added some valuable runs to the total as well.
The Chittagong Vikings have been successful in this season of the Bangladesh Premier League thanks to their batting might and so it was no surprise to see their top-order fire once more. What was more impressive was the manner in which they stuck to their task in the field.
On more than one occasion the Dhaka Dynamites looked like chasing down this total but every time one of the Chittagong Vikings bowlers would strike back. The fielding was also top notch and showed a team that was hungry for success.
Abu Jayed with three wickets to his name led the bowling effort for the Chittagong Vikings. Dasun Shanaka also took two wickets while giving away just 34 runs in his four overs.
We think the Chittagong Vikings are playing like a team that is cohesive and happy with each other’s success. Credit must be given to the captaincy of Mushfiqur Rahim here because he is clearly one of the driving forces of the side.
The Chittagong Vikings are not going to be sitting back and taking it easy just because they have qualified for the playoffs.
C Delport, Yasir Ali, Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mosaddek Hossain, Sikandar Raza, Dasun Shanaka, Nayeem Hasan, Khaled Ahmed, Abu Jayed, Hardus Viljoen.
The Sylhet Sixers would have been quite confident of defending a total of 189 against the Rajshahi Kings in their previous match but Lauri Evans once again propped up the Rajshahi kings batting. The Sylhet Sixers were also blindsided by Ryan Ten Doeschate’s 42 off just 18 deliveries but these are not excuses they would want to hide behind.
The Sylhet Sixers bowling was poor under pressure and they would want to improve that against a strong batting lineup like the Chittagong Vikings. Sabbir Rahman seems to have woken up in this late stage of the BPL and scored another 45 but the real star for the Sylhet Sixers was Nicholas Pooran.
Playing in his first edition of the BPL, Nicholas Pooran has established himself as one of the most destructive hitters of the ball on the T20 circuit. He smashed six sixes and six fours on his way to a 31 ball 76 not out.
There were some small contributions from the other players but no one that carried on to make a significant impact.
How will the Sylhet Sixers approach their last game of the BPL?
We think they are definitely going to struggle to get their side motivated for this last outing. There is nothing to gain for the team anymore and the players are mentally spent by this stage of the tournament.
We have seen on many occasions that a side with nothing to play for ends up playing much below its potential. The individuals to score a lot of runs are definitely present in the side but without something to play for, they are going to struggle to get going.
Sohail Tanvir was the pick of the bowlers in the last match again. He picked up two wickets and was also the most economical bowlers for the Sylhet Sixers. He is going to be the biggest threat to the Chittagong Vikings alongside the back in form Taskin Ahmed.
Afif Hossain, ADS Fletcher , JJ Roy, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Nawaz, Alok Kapali, Jaker Ali Anik, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadat Hossain, Nabil Samad, WD Parnell.

The Bangladesh Premier League match between the Chittagong Vikings and the Sylhet Sixers is going to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The BPL returns to Dhaka for the final few group matches and the knockouts.
Hopefully, this short break would have allowed the curator to get some life into the track which had become very spin friendly. It is going to be difficult to change the underlying nature of the surface, however, and run scoring is going to be much more difficult than it was in Chittagong.
The Chittagong Vikings seem to have the batsmen that can adjust better to the slower conditions they are going to be faced with.
We are strong advising backing the Chittagong Vikings in this match. Not only have they proven themselves to be a better team than the Sylhet Sixers, but they also have an excellent record while playing at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Back the Chittagong Vikings to win.
