Central Hinds Women

The Super Smash for women 2022-23 season got underway when Auckland Hearts started their campaign on Monday against Canterbury Magicians. Central Hinds will be the last team in the competition to get their season underway with this game. The last season was a pretty bad one for Central Hinds women as they managed to win just a couple of games during the entire season. Even during this season, they are not expected to challenge the top sides playing in the competition.

The top batters for Central Hinds last year were Mikaela Greig and Natalie Dodd. they both hit in the excess of 170 runs during last season in the Women's Super Smash. However, the Hinds side will expect at least two of their top batters to hit the 250-run mark this season to harbor any hopes of advancing further in the competition. Their opposition in this game is Wellington Blaze women who will be looking to pick up early wickets in the match to dent an already weak confidence level of Central Hinds batting order.

Jess Watkin is a 24-year-old all-rounder for Central Hinds. She was quite impressive with the ball during the Super Smash last year. However, this year she is expected to concentrate more on her batting after having a poor run with the bat last year. However, the top wicket-taker for Central Hinds last year was Rosemary Mair. During the 2021-22 season, this international cricketer bowled accurately and will be looking to continue the same performance in this game as well. Central Hinds has managed to win just one match from their last five games last season. 

Wellington Blaze Women

The Wellington Blaze women are the defending champions this year. The 2021-22 season winners of the Super Smash for women made a winning start to their campaign this year with a 19-run win over Otago Sparks in the second match of the season played at the Cello Basin Reserve on Christmas eve. However, it was not exactly their best effort and everyone will be looking for a much better performance from them in this game to be played at Fitzherbert Park. The Wellington Blaze batting lineup will be led by Amelia Kerr.

Amelia Kerr is the skipper of the Wellington Blaze women's team. She scored 46 runs in the first match from 42 balls. Her fellow kiwi batter that also did well in this game was Maddy Green who scored 45 runs from 39 balls. These two are dangerous opponents for any side on their day. These two together with Jess Kerr will be looked upon to score big runs for the team. In their first match against Otago Sparks women, Wellington Blaze women also delivered a good performance with the ball.

The strong bowling performance by the Blaze women against Sparks was the key to their good win in the opening match. We are expecting the same bowling attack to play in the second match. In the first game, Leigh Kasperek and Jess Kerr picked up 3 wickets apiece. Kasparek was particularly good with the ball and even bowled a maiden over in this T20 game. All in all the Wellington Blaze women have got off to yet another winning start and they won all the games played in the competition last year.
