About the Match
On 14th May, we’ll see a game between two very good sides which have had exactly opposite fate in this tournament. Chennai Super Kings who are placed at the second spot will take on the team placed second from the bottom, Delhi Daredevils at Chennai. Super Kings have already qualified for the knockouts, but now the question is to qualify for the playoffs by staying at the top two. A win would really help them with this. Delhi would be playing for nothing but pride and they would be coming all guns blazing.
Chennai Super Kings:
Chennai Super Kings have played exactly in contrast with what they’ve shown us in the past. They used to peak at the end of the tournament while in this season, they seem to be losing their way after the excellent start. A win would distinguish them from the crowd at the top of the table and can be a tonic for their way back to the winning ways. The best thing about Chennai is that they always find someone to rescue them from a difficult situation. Hussey is in fine form and so are their bowlers. Chennai has always played well in big games and beating them at home can be a steep task.
It has been a disappointing and rather mundane season for Delhi Daredevils and their fans. They’ve lost all their games in similar fashion and that should concern them. Mahela Jayawardene would be absent due to government issues with Sri Lankan players in Tamil Nadu and Warner would be captaining the side. Delhi looked to claw its way back to form in the previous game which they lost by just four runs. Sehwag looked to be back in form and Chand and Warner were hitting the ball well. Morkel was unlucky initially and their bowling was really poor in death overs. If they improve in the death bowling area and Sehwag stays in for a few overs, beating Delhi would take serious effort.
Chennai would be looking to get back to the first place by winning this one. Daredevils, on the other hand would be looking to fetch some smiles on their fans’ face by beating Super Kings in their own backyard. It’s going to be an interesting to see if Sehwag can take on the bowlers in Yellow. Both the teams are equally good on paper with one struggling for form. Delhi has nothing to lose from this game and the absence of Mahela may just be blessing in disguise for them. Chennai would the team under tremendous pressure to perform and who else other than MSD can handle it better? I still suspect that the men from Delhi may just surprise the men in Yellow.
