Chennai Super Kings
This team defeated Mumbai Indians in the crunch eliminator at their home ground comprehensively by 7 wickets with 8 balls to spare and made it to the 2nd Qualifier stage. They have regained the confidence after this win; when they were defeated by the Kings XI in both the league matches, they scored over 200 runs while chasing or batting first. Their bowlers could not control the flow of runs by the dominant opponent. Certainly they must be taking care of this aspect in this crucial match; Nehra and Jadeja accounted for 2 wickets apiece economically and Mohit Sharma claimed 3 wickets and thus, they controlled the Mumbai Indians though the top order took the score to 155. In chasing the 173 set by the Mumbai Indians they steadily built the innings with the openers Smith and Plessis, making 60 for the 1st wicket. 2 more wickets fell without much addition, but Raina and Hussey ensured that there were no more casualties, both hitting sixes and fours in tandem, making nearly 90 runs in 9 overs and winning the match with 8 balls to spare. Now, they are against the Kings and if they keep the trend and take care of flow of runs by the opponent, they can make it to the final.
Kings XI Punjab
Have they lost their dominant position after the shocking loss against Kolkata Knight Riders? Well, they should not, because they have star performers in Maxwell, Bailey, Miller, Saha and to some extent, Sehwag though inconsistent. They have the required firepower in Karanveer, Patel, Awana and Johnson to control the batting line up of CSK and possess the skills and killing spirit in setting or chasing a target. Only thing is they should take care of is not be over confident; the opponents have their own plans with good experience of playing at this stage and hence should not be complacent. Maxwell, Miller and Sehwag failed in the loss against KKR but should be back in form. They have the league stage performance in mind and are mentally superior; it all boils down to one question of whether they can deliver. The players need to focus on the task at hand and go in with a positive attitude as always.
Both are very strong, composed and can turn the game from any crunch situation to their favor. Kings XI after the loss against KKR are psychologically at a disadvantage whereas Chennai goes into this crucial match with the memory of a superb win; hence we expect the Super Kings to go through.
