About the Match
The Super Kings have had mixed results in the two matches they have played so far, winning the one against Dolphins but losing against KKR; they now have 4 points and will play Lahore Lions on 25th Sep at Bangalore. The Lions are yet to open their kitty and after their debacle against KKR, they will be eager to turn their fortunes around. It will be interesting to see the heroics of the batsmen from both sides, known for their hard-hitting skills and match-winning tactics; the team that can dominate right from the start by executing its strategy to perfection will be able to cross hurdles and win the contest.
Chennai Super Kings
Winning massively by 54 runs against Dolphins in their last match, the Super Kings showed off their batting prowess as star players like Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis and Jadeja made mincemeat of the Dolphins’ bowlers to set a target of 242 runs. Raina has been in excellent form and continued his brilliance with the bat as he scored a valiant 90 off 43 balls and partnered with McCullum to post a 91-run stand for the 2nd wicket. He repeated the good show with Plessis on the other side and the duo ensured that the scoreboard kept ticking. If the batsmen are in terrific form, the bowlers are also in complete charge as witnessed by the heroics of Mohit Sharma, who claimed 4 wickets to demolish the Dolphins batting line-up. He was supported by others like Nehra and Bravo, who claimed 2 wickets each and Ashwin who took the wicket of Morne in the second over. This team is a tough side and under the captaincy of Dhoni, the players get extra motivation to do better; they are prepared for the bowling attack of Lahore Lions and need to keep their nerves together.
They did extremely well to survive the qualifiers and make it to the league stage; though they have suffered a loss in their first outing against KKR, the players have an indomitable spirit that will surely take them to greater heights. While Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal got the runs flowing in the first innings against KKR, the others like Hafeez, Saad Nasim and Nasir Jamshed had a dry spell; they need to pull up their socks and deliver when it matters the most. Defending 151 runs was always going to be tough against a side like KKR and the bowlers couldn’t find the rhythm to demolish the opponents. Aizaz Cheema was the most successful with 2-42 as he dismissed players like Bisla and Pathan in the middle; all the others chipped in with a wicket each except for Hafeez, who tried his best but couldn’t turn around the results in their favour, losing the contest by 4 wickets. Lahore Lions are a good side but they need to get their acts together and execute the game-plan correctly if they want to survive the competition and get ahead.
While the Lions might be motivated to do well against one of the top teams of the championship, Super Kings are accustomed to the challenges of the game and have better fire-power to emerge victorious on Thursday.
