About the Match
Cricket is a game most unpredictable, with ups and downs and the most unexpected things happening on the ground, especially in the T20 format as seen in this edition of the IPL. The heroic way in which Anderson blazed through the uncertainties and made it possible for his team to reach the top four hitting 95 off 44 balls with 9 fours and 6 sixes, will go down memory lane. The crowd will get to see the home team fighting it out with the Chennai Super Kings in the same venue in the elimination match of the series on 28th May. In the previous two matches that the two teams played each other, the 1st match was won by Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets with an over to spare, chasing the target of 141 set by the Mumbai Indians and the 2nd encounter was also won by the Super Kings by 4 wickets with 3 balls to spare chasing 157 set by Mumbai Indians. This elimination match will once again see major fireworks from both sides as they try to dominate each other right from the word go.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai face Mumbai Indians, which has come from nowhere, progressed steadily and won the games which mattered most, and at last battered the Rajasthan Royals with a superior NRR. The Super Kings did not have even an inkling who their opponents would be till the match between Mumbai and Rajasthan was actually over; they would have been witnessing the things happening on the ground with unbelievable anxiety. The Super Kings have the wherewithal to smash the Mumbai Indians as they have been doing time and again, against most of the teams; all the top order batsmen are in good form including the openers who have been laying good foundation for others to play freely. But, now they have the Mumbai Indians in their home ground, challenging them with renewed vigor and self belief. They should continue with the same level of confidence and self belief in a cool headed manner to tackle the challenger.
They were the underdogs in the beginning of the tournament, having lost all their initial matches in the Middle East, and they have made it to this level from nowhere, winning all the crucial matches. They started the winning streak beating the most fancied Kings XI by 5 wickets and then on have not looked back; such was their growing confidence and self-belief that the players started playing for the team with more conviction, and the road to success was clear with the demolition of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Only against the team they face now in the eliminator, Chennai Super Kings, they haven’t won matches this season and have quite a challenge on their hands. In the absence of Malinga they have won against the Royals in their most eventful league fixture and qualified themselves to the eliminator; everyone in the team came together to live up to the expectations in all departments and there is none to be singled out for the outstanding performance. It will be their team spirit and positive attitude that keeps them going and they will definitely give it their all on Wednesday.
The match will be a real tussle to establish their supremacy; while Mumbai has the home advantage, their record against Chennai is not so favorable and we feel that a win to the Super Kings is more likely.
