With 14 points from 10 matches Super Kings are at the topmost position and will go up against Mumbai Indians, who have 10 points from 10 matches and are at the 4th position on 8th May at Chennai. CSK, after defeating RCB have wrested back the top spot from Royals in the points table and are ruthless when it comes to executing their strategy to move towards victory while Mumbai Indians have performed stupendously to reach the top four slot. The hosts are high on confidence after their 4 successive wins and are eager to continue with their winning momentum; the match will be a tough contest and it will be interesting to see who will create magic and triumph on Friday.
Mumbai Indians won their last match against Delhi Daredevils by 5 wickets with three balls to spare as they chased down the target of 153. Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard remained not-out on 49 and 26 runs respectively, followed by Rohit Sharma on 46 runs. They put on gallant innings to help Mumbai Indians to reach the target; on the bowling front, Harbhajan Singh took 2-11 and Lasith Malinga claimed 2-33 to be the main wicket-takers. Mumbai Indians also won their previous match against KXIP by 23 runs as Lendl Simmons’s 71 off 56 and Parthiv Patel’s 59 off 36 helped MI to post a competitive total of 172. They also put up a disciplined effort with the ball; both Mitchell McClenghan and Lasith Malinga showed a brilliant performance to restrict their opponents from reaching their target. Overall, MI have found ideal team composition and their bowling looks settled with Lasith Malinga finding his bearing in McClenaghan’s company. Harbhajan Singh has been economical with the ball and with Simmons, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Unmukt Chand in their ranks, MI have emerged as one of the most destructive batting units this IPL and are ready to beat the opposite team in the upcoming encounter.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings beat RCB by 24 runs in their last match as theyposted a competitive total of 148. Suresh Raina constructed a fine knock of 52 off 46 and MS Dhoni cracked decisive blows in the slog overs to steer the hosts to a defendable score. The bowlers executed their plans to near perfection to overcome the visitors; Ashish Nehra bowled well and took 3 for 19, Ishwar Pandey and Dwayne Bravo took 2 wickets each. In their previous encounter, they lost against SRH by 22 runs after failing to deliver in all the departments but have demonstrated a remarkable ability to bounce back and they did it. Overall, CSK’s batting looks strong with Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith at the top, providing blazing starts, while Faf, Raina, Dhoni and Bravo all have played substantial innings at one point or another. In the bowling front, Ashish Nehra has been their best bowler and Dwayne Bravo has been exceptional at the death. The team is in good form and can defeat any side to stay on top.
It has been an action filled series with both teams doing extremely well to get to the play-offs. While CSK rarely makes things easy for their opposition and is the most consistent side in the Indian Premier League, MI has improved leaps and bounds as far as their batting and bowling is concerned. However, MA Chidambaram Stadium has been a fortress for CSK and we think it would remain that way largely because of Chennai's bowling form, consistency and home advantage.
