About the Match
Group A action continues on Saturday with Super Kings, who are second on the table with 6 points from 3 matches, taking on Perth Scorchers, who have 4 points from 2 matches played so far. With only one place left for the semi-finalists from this group as KKR have already made it through, Super Kings and Scorchers will battle it out to give their best shot though Scorchers will have one more match to be played after this. If rains don’t play spoilsport, then we surely have a fierce contest on the cards.
Chennai Super Kings
Their big victory against Dolphins by 54 runs was just a snapshot of what this team can achieve in this format of the game; Raina is in brilliant form and he posted a massive 90 off 43 balls to help the team cruise to 242-run target. McCullum, Jadeja and Plessis are providing good support and the team has a strong batting-line up with Bravo and Dhoni in the middle. Mohit Sharma’s 4-wicket haul is very promising for the team, which has bowlers like Bravo, Nehra, Ashwin and Jadeja each with their own set of strengths. They have a good combination of spin and pace and must pull out a few tricks from the bag to surprise the opponents. While they are positioned second on the table just behind KKR, they need to be cautious against Scorchers, who will not leave any stone unturned to keep their campaign alive.
They suffered defeat against KKR by 3 wickets although the bowlers did a decent job of getting regular wickets to dismiss the likes of Kallis and Gambhir right at the outset of the second innings; Yasir Arafat took 3 wickets while Nathan Coulter-Nile claimed 2 wickets to display a sound bowling attack. And though Behrendorff and Paris supported well with a wicket each, the KKR batsmen couldn’t be stopped from crossing the target of 151 runs. Adam Voges did well by opening the innings with the bat, scoring 71 off 52 balls, and performing much better than the last game. While Craig Simmons and Whiteman tried to chip in with the runs, all the other batsmen could hardly survive and succumbed to pressure. The players need to rise above their weaknesses and pull up their socks to make a comeback in the series; the bowlers will have to put in extra efforts to stop the Super Kings batsmen from scoring the big shots while the batsmen need to be more determined to set a defendable target batting first or in chasing successfully.
Though the team from down under has the required talent to do well, the Super Kings have more firepower with the bat and their bowlers are more accustomed to the conditions here. While the contest will be a well-fought one, Super Kings are definitely the favorites here and will come out all guns blazing to make it to the semi-finals.
