About the Match
After winning the match against hosts Dindigul Dragons, Chepauk Super Gillies have accumulated 6 points and are third on the table; they will take on Madurai Super Giants, who are at the bottom of the table, on 10th September at Dindigul. The Gillies set up a competitive total of 172 runs against Dragons and went on to successfully defend it to win the match by 6 runs. They will be eager to continue with their winning momentum here; on the other hand, Super Giants will try to better their performance and come up with a much-needed victory in order to keep their hopes alive.
Chepauk Super Gillies
Wicket-keeper batsman Gopinath posted a splendid 76 off 53 deliveries against Dragons; along with Sargunam, who scored 72 off 50, Gopinath put up an opening stand of 144 runs and the Gillies challenged the opposition with a 172-run target. Spinners Alexander and Sai Kishore took a wicket each to stifle the Dragons while medium pacer Kumaran claimed a wicket to help them defend the target successfully.
The bowling unit had done well against Kovai Kings too, taking wickets regularly and restricting the opposition to 137 runs; medium-pacer Sathish registered 2-20 while others like Sai Kishore, Alexander and Dhas took a wicket each. However, the batting line-up crumbled under pressure and despite good contributions by Gopinath, Subhash and Dhas, they lost the match by 11 runs.
They have good resources in the team with both bat and ball and can definitely pose a stiff challenge to the Super Giants on Saturday.
Madurai Super Giants
They lost the last match against Karaikudi Kaalai by a massive margin of 52 runs, after the batsmen put up a dismal show in chasing 150-run target; Chandran’s 43 off 40 went in vain as other players failed to impress with the bat, getting all-out for a measly 97. Earlier, the bowlers had put up a good show as Muruganatham, Kennedy and Amarnath took a wicket each while spinner Bafna registered figures of 2-14 becoming the most economical of the lot. Medium-pacer Raja also did well as he claimed 2 wickets and they combined well to restrict the opponents from getting a big total on board.
However, the batting line-up, which had in the earlier match against Kovai Kings fought hard to put up 189 runs on the board in the chase for 200, staggered and lost the match against Karaikudi Kaalai. Although they had lost the match against Kovai too, batsmen like Arun Karthik, who posted 73 off 44, shone with the bat and can be a vital asset for the team in the upcoming match. Openers Thiyagarajan and Narender can help build a strong foundation while Chandran, Karthik and Vignesh are in good form to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Overall, they have quite many good players in the squad who will be determined to showcase their skills here and help the team pull off a much-needed win.
While the Gillies are positioned safely in the third spot on the table, they won’t take Super Giants lightly; the Giants can definitely fight hard to make a comeback but we feel that Gillies are better placed to win on Saturday
