Chepauk Super Gillies
The bowling department has been phenomenal, displaying commendable discipline and getting regular wickets in both the matches till now. Captain Rajagopal Sathish claimed 3-17 in the opening game against Veerans and along with spinner Sai Kishore’s 2-wicket haul, they restricted the opposition to 126 runs. R Alexander spun magic as he gave away only 14 runs while bowling allrounder Yo Mahesh grabbed one wicket. The batting line-up then puts up a confident show with opener Gopinath scoring an unbeaten 54 while wicket-keeper batsmen S Karthik steadied the innings with 42 off 35. Others like Sathiamoorthy Saravanan pitched in and helped the team win.
In the recent game against Kovai Kings, the bowlers once again proved to be ruthless as spinners Joel Joseph, Alexander and Sai Kishore claimed 4 wickets between them. Rajagopal and Mahesh also dismissed one opponent each and they could restrict the opponents to 146, which the batsmen gunned down easily with one over to spare.
Thalaivan Sargunam scored a brilliant 52 while Gopinath continued his good form with the bat, posting 37 off 25. Uthirasamy Sasidev and Saravanan also kept the scoreboard ticking and they add depth to the lineup. Overall, they are a motivated lot with a good mix of batsmen and bowlers.
They have an excellent bowling attack which has caused devastation in the opposing camp all the three times they have played; spinners Washington Sundar, Aushik Srinivas and Kaushik Gandhi took 5 wickets between them against Karaikudi Kaalai on Sunday to restrict them to a lowly 122 runs. Athisayaraj Davidson and Akash Sumra bring their fast-bowling talents to the team and they dismissed 3 opponents to build the pressure.
All-rounder Washington Sundar then posted a heroic 62 off 47 to steer the team towards victory with help from others like SP Nathan, Umashankar Sushil and Akash Sumra. Against Trichy Warriors too, the bowlers gave no room for error and caused the opposition to get all-out for 120 runs. Spinners Sundar, Srinivas and Ganesh Moorthi took 4 wickets in total while speedsters Aswin Crist, Akash Sumra and Davidson took another 4.
Excellent fielding caused a couple of run-outs and the batsmen had an easy task of chasing 121 runs on their hands, which they did by the 16th over. Kaushik Gandhi posted a brilliant 72 off 55 while Sundar contributed with a well-made 49. The side is doing well with both bat and ball, and are the team to look out for here this season.
Both teams are on a winning momentum with consecutive victories; while the Patriots have a superior run-rate and can wreak havoc with the ball, we feel that the Super Gillies will pull out something special from up their sleeve to stop the winning juggernaut of the Patriots.
