About the Match
After their power-packed batting performance against Riders in the last game, the Vikings have climbed to the 3rd spot with 10 points after 9 games; they will go up against Titans, who currently hold the second place with 12 points, on 29th November at Dhaka. The Titans have recently suffered defeat against Raj Kings by 9 runs, and would try to go back to their winning ways; on the other hand, Vikings registered 4 straight victories and will like to keep their winning momentum going. It needs to be seen which side can overcome the challenges on the field and come out trumps on Tuesday.
Tamim Iqbal’s superb 74 off 59 against Dynamites went in vain as the others down the line crumbled like a pack of cards and were unable to build on the momentum provided by him; Shoaib Malik tried to revive the innings with a well-made 33 but they could muster only 134 in the end. Despite a good show by the bowlers like Malik, Imran Khan, Mohammad Nabi and others, they lost the match against a hard-hitting opposition by 6 wickets.
In the previous match against Titans, the bowlers put up a phenomenal show with speedsters Imran Khan and Taskin Ahmed taking 2 wickets each and others supporting well with regular breakthroughs. The batsmen easily chased down the target of 132 thanks to yet another superb innings by Tamim Iqbal, who posted an unbeaten 66. They have good all-rounders like Nabi and Malik, who can contribute well with bat and ball; hard-hitters like Iqbal, Gayle and Nabi can focus on getting a good total on board.
Overall, they are a strong unit that has plenty of match-winners and with a good strategy they surely can emerge victorious on Saturday.
They had lost the game the last time they played against Vikings after failing to chase down a challenging target of 191; the top-order batsmen like Sabbir Rahman, Junaid Siddique, Mominul Haque and Umar Akmal tried to build steady partnerships but with hardly any support from the middle order, they lost the match by 19 runs. They can try to make better use of the resources at hand to avenge their previous defeat.
In the recent outings, they suffered two consecutive losses, against Bulls and Victorians; the batting line-up collapsed trying to chase down 162 runs against Bulls and in the game against Victorians, they failed to post a stiff target, being able to muster only 124. Samit Patel, Franklin and Mominul Haque are in good form with the bat and can try to stabilise the middle order.
In the bowling department, they have in-form spinners like Mehedi Hasan and Samit Patel while speedsters like Farhad Reza, Mohammad Sami and Abul Hasan can try to outwit the Vikings here. The players’ morale may be down but they can prove to be a tough unit under crunch situations.
The Vikings are determined to come right on top of the table with a win here; they have the psychological advantage of having won before against Raj Kings but we feel that in this crucial match that can take them to the final-four stage, the Kings will leave no stone unturned to win
