About the Match
The Vikings are in the 6th position with 2 points from their win against Victorians in the tournament opener; they will take on Raj Kings, who are placed 5th with 2 points, on 18th November at Chittagong. As the competition gets heated, teams will now look to better their performances and start climbing up the ladder. While the Vikings have been on a slippery slope, losing three straight games, the Kings lost their last match against Bulls by a whisker after winning against Dynamites by 6 wickets. Both teams will be eager to make amends here and dominate the other with bat and ball.
Tamim Iqbal’s return to form is a good sign for the team; he posted a superb 75 off 51 against Barisal Bulls to steer the innings to 163 with help from Jahurul Islam, Anamul Haque and Dwayne Smith. However, the bowlers failed to stop the Bulls from winning the match. Imran Khan, the left-arm fast bowler, took 2 wickets and Subashish Roy took one; Nabi, who has been consistently providing breakthroughs, bowled economically but wasn’t rewarded with any wickets on this occasion.
Against Titans, Nabi weaved magic with his spin skills as he dismissed 3-22; speedster Taskin Ahmed took 2-17 in 3 overs, and they restricted the opponents to 127. However, the batting line-up put up a dismal effort; except Jahurul Islam, Nabi and PC de Silva, who tried to keep the scoreboard ticking, the others collapsed without a fight and lost the match by a heart-wrenching margin of 4 runs.
Tamim Iqbal will be key to their efforts in building a solid foundation; Nabi, Imran Khan, Taskin Ahmed and Abdur Razzak can use spin and pace combination here to outwit the Kings.
In the match against the Bulls, the Kings batsmen measured up to the task of chasing down a challenging total of 193 runs; but the others failed badly, losing the match by a narrow margin of 4 runs. Middle-order batsman Sabbir Rahman was sensational as he posted a heroic 122 from just 61 deliveries, and is a vital asset to the team; Sammy contributed well scoring 27 off 19 and is a good all-rounder. However, others like Umar Akmal, Patel and Raqibul Hasan will need to pull up their socks and try to put their best foot forward.
The bowling department has medium-pacer Farhad Reza, who took 2 wickets against Bulls, and spinner Mehedi Hasan who continues to stifle the opponents with his economical bowling. Samit Patel provides the spin options along with Mehedi but proved to be costly in the last match. Abul Hasan, Sammy and Kesrick Williams bring the pace attack to the fore and they can be ruthless here.
In the match against Dynamites, the spinners Patel and Mehedi Hasan stole the show as they took 2 wickets each to contain the opposition to 138 runs. This was chased down easily thanks to a superb effort from all-rounder Samit Patel, who scored 44 off 25, Sabbir Rahman and Umar Akmal. The batting line-up has many strong resources, who can help the team bounce back on Friday.
The Vikings are desperate for a win now, after losing three games and will try to come out with all their firepower to overcome the Kings; however, we feel that the Kings have a pretty strong middle-order that gives them the edge to emerge on winning side on Friday
