About the Match
An incredible inning by Sikandar Raza helped the Chittagong Vikings register their second win of the season and they could have added to that against the Rangpur Riders as well but Thisara Perera stole that game from under their feet. They now go into this crucial game against the Dhaka Dynamites with some momentum and everything to play for. The Dynamites themselves are currently in the middle of a closely packed group and will be looking for a win to give them some breathing space.
Stiann van Zyl played a fantastic inning of 68 in the last match to lead his side to a competitive total but the bowlers were unable to back up that performance and let the Riders complete the highest successful chase this season.
Ironically, it was van Zyl and Soumya Sarkar who gave away plenty of runs in their two overs each to let the Rangpur Riders really get their chase going.
The top order for the Vikings has actually been having a decent tournament. Stiann van Zyl has 131 runs from just three innings, Sikandar Raza has 192 runs from 6 innings at a strike rate of 147.69, and Luke Ronchi continues to have a fruitful tournament with 2065 runs to his name.
Soumya Sarkar and Anamul Haque have got starts in plenty of games but are still lacking the consistency that their team needs. With a couple of their overseas batsmen now hitting their stride, runs should not be too much of a problem going into the last leg of matches.
Taskin Ahmed has been the best bowler for Vikings this tournament with 11 wickets to his name from just 7 innings. Sunzamul Islam with 8 wickets has also been impressive but there is a steep fall in quality around the two.
The Vikings are still struggling to put five or even four good bowlers on the park and that is the reason why they are the bottom-placed team in the league.
The defending champions and the pre-tournament favorites, Dhaka Dynamites have slipped up in a couple of matches that they really should have won. Their last game saw them overcome a Chris Gayle blitz then mess up a chase of 140 from a relatively comfortable position.
It's maybe the huge number of options that the Dhaka Dynamites have available to themselves which is causing some selection headaches and a lack of clarity in their tactics.
With a bowling lineup that comprises of Sunil Narine, Mohammad Amir, Shahid Afridi, and Shakib Al Hasan, no team can ever be comfortable playing against them. Even the fifth bowler responsibilities are shared between Kieron Pollard, a very competent bowler in T20 cricket, and Abu Hider.
Shakib Al Hasan’s fantastic five-wicket haul was the highlight of the last match and we are confident in predicting that a couple of match-winning performances from their bowlers are yet to come about.
More problems currently exist in the batting order, though. Evin Lewis has scored 239 runs in 7 innings to be the mainstay of the Dhaka batting but we are not quite convinced with Narine being sent up the order to pinch hit. Shahid Afridi has already had some success in this spot and seems better equipped plus brings a left-right combination to the table as well.
Pollard has been good with the power hitting down the order with 11 sixes to his name already but the likes of Shakib, Mossadek Hossain, and Jahurul Islam have not quite contributed with the bat like expected.
The Dhaka Dynamites are easily the best team in the league on paper but they are still very beatable. The tournament is not coming towards its end stages and it is not a good sign that the Dynamited still seem to be figuring out what their best combination and best batting order are.
Pitch and Conditions
Chittagong has provided the best batting surfaces so far and the same should continue in this match as well. Scores of close to 170 may be scored again in this match especially considering the string batting lineups that both teams have.
The weather is expected to be clear and perfect for cricket.
The Chittagong Vikings have lost their last four matches against the Dhaka Dynamites pretty convincingly and we think the streak will be extended to five in this match.
