The Canterbury team led by Cole McConchie got off to a fine start to the season. The Kings bowlers appeared to be in fine touch in the first match and their batters fairly destroyed the Knights' bowling attack. This game saw the Kings romping home to a 9-wicket victory against the Northern Knights in a game affected by rain. Cole McConchie will be looking to ride the momentum in this game and take another win to strengthen their position in the points tally. One of the batters that looked in good touch was Chad Bowes who will look to make another good beginning in this match.
Bowes will be opening the innings with Matthew Boyle. As far as the Canterbury middle order is concerned the management will be expecting big contributions from the bats of the skipper Cole McConchie, Cam fletcher, and Leo Carter in this match. The lower middle order of the Canterbury side is a pretty decent one with players such as Henry Shipley, Angus McKenzie, and Mitchell Hay being the players in charge of scoring some quick runs lower down the order. Their players have not risen to the expectations in their last 2 seasons and they will have to perform well together as a unit to have any hopes of a good performance in this match. They are going up against a confident and strong outfit. All the Aces players will have to put in a spirited effort to win this match.
One of the experienced campaigners for Auckland Aces is Martin Guptill. He will have to bring all his experience into play. Guptill will be eying a huge opening wicket partnership with Sean Solia to get the Aces off to a flier. One thing is certain, the Auckland team will miss the services of Cole Briggs and Glenn Phillips in this match. These are two big shoes to fill. The responsibility of scoring big runs lies with the likes of William Somerville, Ben Horne, and Mark Chapman. This batting strength will be bolstered by the likes of Ryan Harrison, and Robert O'Donnell lower down in the middle order.
As far as the Auckland Aces bowling attack is concerned, the team will be looking to get early breakthroughs from people like Ross ter Braak and Louis Delport. They will have their mind on the fact that the Kings batters will be confident in this game after doing well in the opening match. The top bowlers such as Danru Ferns and Ryan Harrison will be looking to keep the run rate on the lower side, especially in the middle overs.
