CK vs CS Match Prediction - Feb 12, 2022

We are just about approaching the business end of the tournament in the Ford Trophy, New Zealand's premier fifty-over competition, and things are looking extremely tight at the ladder. Wellington Firebirds and Central Districts are both running away at the top of the ladder and the battle for the third spot is getting more and more intense with every passing match.

Up next in the tournament, Central Districts are all set to take on Canterbury Kings in a match that holds massive importance for both these sides. The rivalry has been going strong between these two sides of late and that would be one reason for the two sides to come hard at each other. The match between the two sides is to be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 13th February 2022.

Canterbury Kings

Unlike in all the other limited overs competitions they have played recently, Canterbury Kings haven't looked as fluent as they would have wanted to be. They are still in contention to get into the top-three but it is certainly going to be a steep climb for them. A win here will push them to the third spot on the ladder, at least for the time being and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.

As it currently stands on the points table, Canterbury Kings are placed at the fifth spot on the ladder with just one win from seven matches. While just one win from seven matches sounds a bit odd for a team of their calibre, it is worth noting that three of their matches were washed out due to rain. Having said that, they still have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.627, which just shows how bad they have been in the tournament so far.

Canterbury Kings are coming off a poor recent run with no win in their last four matches. Yes, two of those were washed out due to rain, but the Kings looked off-colour in the other two matches that they lost. They do not have the momentum and might find it difficult to get going from the word go, especially against a side to that has done pretty well up until now.

The Kings have a decent side on paper with the likes of Chad Bowes, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, and Matt Henry available, but they haven't really managed to get their execution right. Also, there is a bit of inexperience in their lower order, which can backfire in crunch situations. Having said that, they have plenty of match-winners available at their disposal and even if a couple of them get going, keeping the Kings quiet is going to be a very difficult task.

Central Districts

Central Districts have been a little unfortunate in the recent limited-overs competitions they have been part of as they have missed out on their goals more often than not. They look pretty well placed in this tournament up until now and a win here will certainly put them in front of race.

As it currently stands on the points table, they are placed at the top with 21 points from six matches, thanks to three wins and as many washouts. Besides, they have a terrific net run rate of 3.205, which is differentiating them from the second placed team, Wellington Firebirds.

Despite half of their matches being washed out, the Stags have done an exceedingly good job of keeping the momentum. In their last four matches, they have won and lost two. Their last completed match was against Otago Volts, wherein they registered a solid win by 200 runs.

Batting first on a good surface, the Kings were excellent from the get go and added 314 runs in 50 overs. The good thing about that performance was that they saw contributions coming in from almost everyone with Adam Milne scoring a belligerent fifty coming in at eight. They were even better with the ball as they managed to restrict Otago Volts to just 114 runs. With the ball as well, it was a complete performance with almost everyone picking up wickets apart from keeping things tight.

On paper, the Stags have an excellent side that is rich in experience and talent in both departments of the game. The presence of Ross Taylor in the middle-order brings about a sense of calmness in their lineup, which otherwise seems to be pretty aggressive. On the bowling front too, they have plenty of options available, who are all capable of picking up wickets and stemming the flow of runs. They gain strength from their deep batting line-up, which prove to be crucial in the last match as well. Overall, they have the momentum and a strong side on paper and if they are able to play to their potential, getting past them would be incredibly difficult.

CK vs CS Betting Tips

We are just approaching the business end of the tournament and each win here can be of massive improtance. A loss here for the Kings could very well mean curtains if the other sides in contention for the playoffs are able to do well in their respective matches. The Stags, on the other hand, are already in the next round. Considering how the two sides have played and the overall team combinations on paper, Central Districts appear to be a better side. Back Central Districts to win this upcoming contest.
