In the men's Super Smash for the 2022-23 season, we have an exciting contest coming up. Northern Knights will take on Canterbury Kings in the 16th game of the competition at Canterbury's home ground. Canterbury Kings won their last match against Auckland Aces and as a result, will be more confident going into this match. The Northern Knights team on the other hand had to share points with Otago Volts in their last encounter. They will be looking to take a victory in this match and improve their position in the points tally. These two teams had met each other earlier in the season when Canterbury Kings came out trumps by a huge margin. Kings will be keen to repeat a similar performance in this match. They are playing at home and are aware of the conditions very well. Knights will also be geared up to provide a strong show in the fixture to try and move up in the points table. So, we have a great game of cricket coming up.

CK vs NK Team Previews

Canterbury Kings

The Canterbury Kings team is being led by Cole McConchie in this competition. They won their second match of the season in their last appearance as they beat Auckland Aces by 14 runs. Yet, they are still placed way below in the points table at the number 5 position. They will have to win this match for moving up in the points table. In the first game they played against Northern Knights, they won easily. McConchie will be expecting his players to draw inspiration from this fact and repeat a similar performance in this game as well.

Ken McClure and Chad Bowes will need to do a good job in the match. Their side has not received too many good partnerships at the top of the order. The Canterbury middle order has also been inconsistent. They will expect better performances from batters such as the skipper Cole McConchie, Leo Carter, Mitchell Hay, ZG Foulkes, and Cam Fletcher. As far as the bowling attack is concerned, Canterbury will look at Ed Nuttall and William O'Rourke to provide a great start with the new ball.

Northern Knights have some good batsmen in their middle and lower middle order. Todd Astle is an experienced campaigner and will be entrusted with the job of stopping the flow of runs in the middle overs together with Foulkes, McConchie, and Angus McKenzie. Canterbury was lucky to win their match as it was a rain-curtailed game. They won it by the D/L method with a reduced target. Ken McClure was looking quite good though it was a brief stay at the wicket. He hit 32 runs from 14 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours to take his side home with many balls to spare.

Northern Knights

The Northern Knights outfit is led by Jeet Raval. Jeet Raval's men had to share points in their last match against Otago Volts after the game had to be abandoned due to rain. Northern Knights have won a couple of matches so far but they will have to find some rhythm, as the competition is moving toward an important stage. The team lost to the Canterbury Kings last year but they will be keen to stage a comeback and do well in this game. One batter that is doing a good job at the top of the order for Knights is Katene Clarke.

Clarke will need to provide a good start to the Knights' innings together with Tim Seifert. The Northern Knights' middle order will be anchored by Jeet Raval and he will have to develop a partnership with Fredrick Walker and Henry Cooper. This is one aspect of their performance they need to work on. The team will also need decent contributions from the likes of Brett Hampton and Peter Bocock in their lower middle order. As far as the Northern Knights bowling is concerned the side will hope for good performances from Tim Pringle and Zak Gibson.

Katene Clarke is having some issues with his line but he will have to pull up his socks with Joe Clarke in the middle overs. Knights are also expecting a good showing from the likes of Hampton and Fredrick Walker. The Northern Districts team won the last full game they played against Wellington. This game was played on the 4th of January in Wellington. Batting first Wellington men scored 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The Northern Districts men made light work of this modest total by winning it in 18.4 overs with 6 wickets to spare.

CK vs NK Toss Prediction

We have seen a couple of games so far in the competition at this ground with average scores being put on the board. The conditions on offer at the Hagley Oval ground have been difficult for the batters to play their shots naturally, especially during the beginning of the innings. The wicket however eases off as the game progresses. The team that wins the toss will be keen to take advantage of the early life in the wicket by putting the opposition into bat.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The Hagley Oval in Christchurch is a smallish ground and has very short square boundaries. This is a terrific advantage to the batters that can play their shots. However, these conditions are quite challenging for the spinners on either side as this pitch will not offer any help to the spinners. The quicker bowlers will enjoy bowling on the track especially if they get the opportunity to bowl first in the match.

It is expected that we will get cloudy conditions during this game on the 13th of January. Faster bowlers are going to enjoy these conditions as they will get the ball to move laterally due to the cloud cover. The pitch is flat and it will facilitate the batters to play their strokes. Any team that will bat first here will eye a score of 160 runs which will be an at-par score.

CK vs NK Betting Tips

The Northern Knights team is currently struggling with their batting. Their top-order batsmen are not being able to build big partnerships. This has become a headache for the team and they will have to get it right to have any hopes of winning this game. The Canterbury Kings are going into this match with a resounding victory and they have also beaten the Knights earlier in the season. They are also playing at home which is always an advantage for any team. So, we will bet with Canterbury Kings to win this match.
