Canterbury Kings

The Kings are one of the most consistent franchises in Super Smash and they have reached the Finals in each of the last 2 seasons. However, they haven’t had the best of starts this season.

Canterbury won its opening match, and played against the Braves, but lost the next two matches, both by 4 wickets. Chad Bowes and Leo Carter have batted exceptionally well at the top of the order and have provided the team with a couple of excellent starts but the middle order has been pretty mediocre in its performance thus far.

The likes of Cole McConchie and Matthew Boyle have failed to register big scorers and that has prevented Canterbury from setting match-winning targets. It is the same story with the bowling too, as except for Henry Shipley, none of the bowlers have managed to keep a tight leash on the opposition batsmen. Ed Nutall has picked up 4 wickets but has been very expensive so far.

Overall, the Canterbury team, while having some of the biggest names in the squad, has failed to perform as a unit. 

Wellington Firebirds

The Wellington Firebirds lost out to the Canterbury Kings in the Eliminator Finals in the last season and will be eager to take revenge here. The team has won both the matches that it has played so far and is sitting at the top of the points table.

Rachin Ravindra has been a standout performer so far, contributing well with both, the bat as well as the ball. Ravindra has scored 83 runs in 2 innings, including a half-century, and has also picked up 3 wickets. Finn Allen and Nick Kelly too have got off to decent starts and will be looking to build upon their form as the tournament progresses.

Logan van Bbek played a stunning cameo of 21 runs from just 7 deliveries in the last match and his batting effort was critical in the narrow 2-run win. At present, the Wellington team is looking pretty well-balanced and is up for any challenge that the opposition might throw at them.
