COB vs KNI Match Prediction - Apr 16, 2019

It’s a clash between two teams at the opposite ends of the CSA T20 Challenge League table as the Cape Cobras get ready to take on the Knights. The Cape Cobras won their previous match against the Dolphins and are now at the top of the table. The Knights had to suffer their second rained-out match and are still looking for their first win of the tournament.

Sitting around while the rain denies you an opportunity to try and move up the table can be very frustrating. We hope to have some better weather in Cape Town, where this match is scheduled to be played.

Can the Knights pull off an upset and get their first win of the season against the Cape Cobras? Let’s see.

COB vs KNI Team Previews

Cape Cobras

The Cape Cobras defended a total of 152 thanks to some excellent bowling and registered their third victory of the tournament. A number of batsmen got starts but did not go on to make a big score. Hashim Amla got 32, Kyle Verreynne got 28, and Goerge Linde remained not out on 27 but the entire batting inning struggled for momentum.

The pitch was not the easiest to score on but 152 was still 10-15 runs short of a par total.

The Cape Cobras come out to bowl with passion and were lead by their skipper, Rory Kleinveldt. He gave away just 9 runs in his four overs and took two wickets as well. An economy rate of 2.25 is acceptable in test cricket, forget T20 cricket!

His control and precision made batting difficult and allowed the other bowlers to do well also. Vernon Philander, Nkululeko Serame, and George Linde all bowled well to help the Cape Cobras win.

Now, in this upcoming match against the Knights, we think the Cape Cobras bowling will have an easier time against the Knights batting. The confidence of having defended a small total will help the Cape Cobras.

We also think that Hashim Amla is due for a big score in this tournament. He has been spending some time in the middle without getting a substantial score and he is too good a batsman to continue throwing away his wicket.

The Cape Cobras are peaking at the right time in this tournament.

Knights

The problems for the Knights continue to mount. They have lost the two matches that have been completed and the only points that they have are through rained out matches. The biggest problem for the Knights has been their batting and that is not a problem that we can see being resolved anytime soon.

Grant Mokoena, Petrus van Biljon, Andries Gous, and Patrick Kruger don’t form the strongest batting order but they are better than what they been performing so far.

The Knights struggled to get 110 in their last inning and banking on this lot doing too much better against the Cape Cobras is a risky proposition. There is not too much to be said about the bowling either.

A couple of their bowlers like Eddie Leie, Gerald Coetzee, and Shadley van Schalkwyk have been steady but they have not been picking too many wickets either.

There is nothing about the Knights side which has that ‘X’ factor which could help their side forge ahead. Most of the players in the Knights lineup seem limited in their approach and abilities. Yes, this side can win matches of a lot of things go their way but they are always going to be struggling to make an impact.

COB vs KNI Toss Prediction

The side winning the toss is likely to want to field first. Chasing has always been the more successful option at Newlands thanks to its bouncy pitch and small boundaries.

Pitch and Conditions

The CSA T20 match between the Cape Cobras and the Knights is going to be played at Newlands, Cape Town. The weather forecast in Cape Town is much better than what we have seen in other parts of the country. There is very little chance of rain and we don’t think we will have any trouble getting a full match in.

The pitch at Newlands is excellent for batting. We could see a 200 plus total being scored in this match.

COB vs KNI Betting Tips

The Knights are available at some very attractive odds but there is nothing about their side that is calling out to us. We recommend sticking with the favorites in this match as well. Back the Cape Cobras to win.
