About the Match
The Cobras lost the opening match against Knights by 38 runs and will now take on Titans, who won their game against Lions by 42 runs, on 16th November at Boland Park, Paarl. Chasing 184 runs, the Cobras batting line-up collapsed in the middle and they were all-out by the 18th over; on the other hand, the Titans set 194 runs batting first against Lions, and the bowlers went on to defend it easily. The upcoming contest between these two teams will surely be closely fought and the side that can cleverly use its resources to dominate on the field will be better placed to win on Wednesday.
Richard Levi, Keegan Petersen and George Linde contributed well with the bat during chase for 185; however, the others couldn’t build steady partnerships or go for the big runs. While Petersen fell after scoring 39 from 29 balls, Levi and Linde scored 25 and 30 runs to keep the scoreboard ticking but their efforts weren’t enough to get to the target. Players like Justin Ontong, Kieron Pollard and Cebo Tshiki were dismissed for single digits, but they can put up a better performance in the upcoming match.
Earlier, fast-bowler Dane Paterson bowled well to take 3-40 while Pollard and Jason Smith took 3 wickets between them; spinner George Linde took 2 wickets but they couldn’t stop the opposition from setting a big total on board. Pacer Rory Kleinveldt bowled economically and is vital to their bowling attack; with others like Aviwe Mgijima and Tshepo Moreki, the Cobras can try to stifle the Titans here.
Overall, they have good resources with bat and ball, who can help the team make a comeback; although they lost their opening game, the Cobras will be determined to win on Wednesday.
Heino Kuhn played a special innings as he posted an unbeaten 83 off 52; along with Qaasim Adams, all-rounders Albie Morkel and Farhaan Behardien, who kept the runs flowing with their batting skills, Kuhn took the total to 194 runs. This was successfully defended by the bowlers, who took regular wickets and stifled the Lions getting them all-out for 152.
While Morkel took a superb 3-12 which his medium pace variations, Lungisani Ngidi and Malusi Siboto contributed with 2 scalps each. Spinner Shaun von Berg also took a wicket, and adds depth to the squad. The team has many all-rounders like David Wiese, Albie Morkel, Henry Davids and Farhaan Behardien, who could help stabilize the innings and also provide the breakthroughs when needed.
The victory has boosted their morale and with the in-form batting line-up, the Titans definitely can pose a stiff challenge to the Cobras; with a good strategy and focused execution of the game plan, the Titans look well placed to continue with their winning momentum.
Both teams have good match-winners who can come out with all their firepower at the Boland Park; while Cobras can improve in all departments of the game to put up a good fight, we feel that the Titans with the help of their all-rounders will emerge victorious again.
