About the Match
The Bulls conquered the last hurdle by defeating Riders by 5 wickets
to reach the finals of the Bangladesh Premier League; they will fight against Victorians, who had booked their berth by winning the first qualifier against Riders, on 15th December at Dhaka for the trophy. Both teams are equally matched in terms of getting consistent wickets of the opposition and putting up a tough fight to emerge victorious; the side that can dig deep into its batting strength and make full use of its resource, will have an edge over the other and find it that much easier to lift the title.
Winning the qualifier match against riders by a whopping margin of 72 runs, shows the versatile batting line-up that they have; ImrulKayes, Liton Das, Ashar Zaidi and Abu Hider gave a tremendous effort to take their team safely to the finals.
Hider’s 4-19 and Zaidi’s 4-11 helped them dominate the opposition completely, thereby restricting them to just 91 runs in reply for 164. Earlier, Ashar Zaidi displayed his all-rounder skills to contribute with 40 off 15 while Kayes stuck his feet firmly on the ground, contributing with a well-made 67.
Mashrafe Mortaza continues to inspire his team with bat and ball; his match-winning efforts have taken the team to great heights and he surely is a strong asset. Andre Russell, Ahmed Shehzad and others look good to steady the middle order and ensure to build a strong foundation; Kulasekara, Zaidi, Hider and Mortaza have been consistent with the wickets and need to put a disciplined attack on Tuesday.
They not only survived the eliminator, but also gave a tough fight against Riders to make it to the finals; chasing 161 runs, Sabbir Rahman and Shahriar Nafees put up a brilliant and much-needed 124-run stand for the 3rd wicket to take their team closer to the finish line. Cooper and Emrit kept their cool and scored the winning runs with 3 balls to spare.
In the bowling department, it was Cooper’s turn to shine with 4-39 while Al-Amin Hossain, Mohammad Sami and Prasanna continued with their good form to help restrict the opponent. Hossain has been successful in providing important breakthroughs for them and will be vital to their attack in the upcoming match too.
The batting definitely will hold the key against Victorians, who also have a strong bowling department that can produce results; players like Rony Talukdar, Mahmudullah, Emrit and others must focus on keeping the scoreboard ticking and mustering up a big total if batting first.
The Bulls have overcome many tricky situations to reach this stage and they will not give up their desire to win the title till their last fighting breath; Victorians have been splendid all through the league and have proved themselves to be a tough nut to crack. Although the contest could sway either way, we feel that the Bulls will succeed to dominate and emerge victorious on Tuesday
