About the Match
The top two teams in the table, Victorians and Bulls with 10 points each, will take on each other for the 23rd match of the league at Dhaka on 7th December; after 7 matches played, the Victorians are flying high at the top spot while the Bulls are close behind in the second position. The Victorians have a better run rate compared to the Bulls but the upcoming contest could be anybody’s game as long as they play with a cool head and keep their nerves together in crunch situations. The Victorians are coming here at the back of a win whereas the Bulls have suffered defeat against the low-ranked Super Stars; however, this will not stop the latter from putting up a fierce competition on Monday.
They defeated the Vikings by 5 wickets, after chasing down 137 with ease thanks to a solid effort by the top order batsmen like Ahmed Shehzad, Imrul Kayes and Shoaib Malik. Earlier, the bowlers had done well to restrict the opposition as Abu Hider, Shuvagata Som and Ashar Zaidi took a wicket each in regular intervals. This was their second consecutive win in recent games and they look strong to continue with their winning momentum.
In the game against Super Stars, they lost by 4 wickets despite putting up a competitive total of 164 runs; the bowlers Kulasekara and Abu Hider, who claimed 4-28, did very well to provide quick breakthroughs but the others gave away too many runs, leading to the defeat. They do have a variety of pace bowlers but need to put up a disciplined attack against the Bulls in order to succeed.
Overall, they have a strong batting line-up and result-oriented bowlers, who have been winning matches for them; but they need to be cautious here on Monday against the Bulls, who will be eager to avenge the defeat in their previous encounter.
It was a horrifying game against Super Stars, as the entire batting line-up collapsed for just 58 runs, the lowest total to be put up so far this season; stalwarts like Gayle and Mahmudullah were out for single digits while Lewis managed only 12 runs in the top order. They failed against spinners as well as the pacemen and they will be eager to wipe out this humiliation in a hurry with a much better performance in the next game.
Previous to this game, they had won three straight matches to climb up to the second position; in the game against Riders, they won emphatically by 6 wickets D/L method after chasing down 75 runs in 13 overs. Al-Amin Hossain has been performing superbly, and he took 3-30 restricting Riders in their run-flow; along with Sami and Emrit, they contained the opposition to just 104 runs.
Prasanna and Taijul Islam have also been among the wicket-takers; they have great depth in their bowling unit and if the batsmen can get their act together against the high flying Victorians, they definitely can go back to their winning ways.
While the Bulls suffered a humiliating defeat today, they will gear up to face another challenge tomorrow; however, Victorians have the psychological advantage of coming here at the back of a win and with their better performance with the bat, they look clear favorites to win this match
