About the Match
Victorians lost the opening match against Vikings by 29 runs while Barisal Bulls also suffered a loss against Dynamites by 8 wickets; both teams will now take on each other in the upcoming 6th match at Dhaka on 11th November. While the Victorians failed to chase down 162 runs, the Bulls couldn’t defend 148 runs against the Dhaka team; they will fight hard to make amends here and start collecting vital points to climb up the ladder. It needs to be seen which team can use its resources well to dominate on the field and get two points in the kitty on Friday.
Chasing 162 runs against Vikings, the Victorians got off to a shaky start with 4-58; Nazmul Hossain fought a lone battle with a well-made 54 and he got some support from Marlon Samuels’ 23 runs but the others failed to impress with the bat. The batting line-up collapsed in the middle and they fell short of the target by 29 runs in the end.
The bowlers too put up a lacklustre performance earlier with only spinner Imad Wasim taking a wicket and proving to be economical as well; speedsters like Sohail Tanvir, Mashrafe Mortaza and spinners like Ashar Zaidi gave away too many runs but in the end it was the batsmen who disappointed with the bat. They have experienced players like Marlon Samuels, Imrul Kayes, Liton Das and other all-rounders, who can try to stabilize the innings in the upcoming match.
The recent loss will motivate the players to do better and we can expect them to put their best foot forward on Friday.
Captain Mushfiqur Rahim led the team from the front as he scored a well-made 50 and remained unbeaten to steer the scoreboard to 148; Shahriar Nafees stuck his feet firmly on the ground and assisted Rahim with a superb 55 off 34 but the others fell quickly against the Dynamites bowlers.
The bowling department couldn’t get the regular breakthroughs although Taijul Islam and Monir Hossain took a wicket each. Fast bowlers Al-Amin Hossain, Perera and the young spinner Mahedi Hasan proved to be too expensive and they failed to defend the total.
The Bulls had finished as runners-up in the third edition of the tournament and they will have their eyes set on the coveted prize this time around; with result-oriented bowlers like Taijul Islam, Abu Hider and Mohammad Nawaz in the squad, they must create a strategy to win in the upcoming matches. Mushfiqur Rahim has loads of experience and players like Shamsur Rahman and Carlos Brathwaite can give good support in trying to help Bulls dominate yet again.
Both teams suffered defeat in their opening game and they will try to come out with all their firepower on Friday to make amends; the contest could be closely fought between the bowlers from both sides but we feel that the Bulls with their batting strength could drive home a win here
