About the Match
Defending champions, Victorians ended their winless streak by registering an emphatic win over Raj Kings in the last game by 32 runs; they will now like to make up for time lost by winning the upcoming game against Vikings on 21st November at Chittagong. The Vikings are placed 5th on the table with 4 points after defeating Raj Kings in the previous game and will be eager to better their standings. On the other hand, the Victorians are at the bottom of the table with just 2 and need to keep the momentum going before it’s too late.
Nazmul Shanto Hossain opened for the team against Raj Kings and he posted a well-made 41 to build a good foundation; Imrul Kayes, coming down at No.4 did better than previous matches and scored 34 off 25 while all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate and Sohail Tanvir kept the runs flowing to get the total to 152. Tanvir then claimed 4-18 with his excellent pace skills to demolish the opposition and with help from others like Mohammad Saifuddin, who took 3 scalps, Mashrafe Mortaza who was the most economical of the lot they restricted Kings to 120 all-out and registered their maiden victory.
In the previous game against Riders, middle-order batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Marlon Samuels posted 52 runs each but the others put up a dismal show, and they could muster only 122 in the end. The bowling was also lacklustre with only Mortaza succeeding in dismissing one opponent, and they ended up with defeat by 9 wickets.
The coming to form of players like Imrul Kayes and Nazmul Shanto is a good sign for the top-order, and they can try to build solid partnerships whether batting first or during chase. The bowling has been sharp recently, and their pace attack looks good to dominate again.
They have managed to bounce back into the series after defeating Raj Kings recently, after 4 straight losses; Anamul Haque posted a brilliant 50 while Dwayne Smith scored a quick fire 34 from 19 balls but the hero of the innings was all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who fired up an unbeaten 87 from just 37 deliveries to take the total to 190.
Speedster Taskin Ahmed, who has been consistently taking wickets, claimed 5-31 against Kings and helped demolish the opposition; Imran Khan and Elliott took 3 wickets between them while player of the match, Nabi took one scalp to help win the match by 19 runs. This victory would surely have boosted their morale and the players will be determined to repeat their earlier winning performance against Victorians, wherein the bowlers successfully defended 161 thanks to Nabi’s superb 4-24.
In the previous game against Dynamites though, the batting line-up faltered and they failed to reach the target of 149. Although Tamim Iqbal started the chase well with 26 runs, the others couldn’t build partnerships. Spinner Mohammad Nabi is doing well with bat and ball, and he will be a vital asset to the team here; Taskin Ahmed, Mills, Imran Khan and Elliott add depth to the attack.
Although Victorians’ recently founded success could drive them to do better, we feel that Vikings who have previously defeated the Victorians, are supercharged with bat and ball to win again.
