About the Match
The Victorians continue to be at the bottom of the table with just 2 points, which they secured after a long-awaited win against Raj Kings; the defending champions have put up a dismal show this season, and they will now take on Dynamites at Dhaka on 26th November in the hopes to keep their campaign alive. The Dynamites have lost two matches in a row and have slipped down to the third place with 8 points; they will grab this opportunity to go back to their winning ways.
In an effort to improve their poor standings on the table, the Victorians did well with the bat against Vikings as they posted a gigantic 183 runs. Khalid Latif posted 76 off 53 while Ahmed Shehzad and Imrul Kayes kept the runs flowing with their 40 and 36 runs respectively. However, the bowlers couldn’t come out with all their firepower and lost the match by 6 wickets. All-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate took 2-15 while Tanvir and Mortaza claimed 1 wicket each, but others like Saifuddin, Shanto and Habibur Rahman were punished hard by the opponents.
In the game against Raj Kings, fast-bowler Sohail Tanvir stepped up his ante as he took 4-18 in 3 overs to lead the team to their first victory, defending 152 runs with ease. Other speedsters like Saifuddin, Mortaza and Doeschate provided breakthroughs to get the opponents all-out for 120. With the bat, opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 41 off 40 while Imrul Kayes and Doeschate kept the runs flowing; Tanvir’s all-rounder skills helped them post 152, which earned them the win.
They have experienced bowlers like Tanvir, Mortaza and Doeschate, who can strategize well against Dynamites; the power-packed batting performance against Vikings is a good sign for the team.
Sangakkara finally came to form as he posted 66 off 46 against Raj Kings recently; however, his efforts went in vain as the bowlers couldn’t defend 182 runs in the end. DJ Bravo was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3-35 while Mohammad Shahid, Shakib and Coles provided breakthroughs to slow down the opposition. Mehedi Maruf, Prasanna and Shakib Al Hasan played useful knocks with the bat but the bowlers proved to be too expensive, leading to a loss by 3 wickets.
Against Titans, they were put to field first and although Bravo, Shakib and Mohammad Shahid continued with their wicket-taking skills, the target of 158 runs was an uphill climb for the batting line-up. Prasanna showcased his all-rounder skills as he posted a superb 53 off just 22 coming in at No.9; Mosaddek Hossain also tried to revive the innings in the middle by scoring 35 runs but with others like Sangakkara, Nasir Hossain, Bravo and Shakib falling for single digits, they lost the match narrowly by 9 runs.
The team has been on a downward slope but they have good resources who can help them bounce back here; with the crowd support, the players could lift their morale and come out trumps.
The Victorians may be down on morale but they showed good signs of recovery in recent games; the Dynamites on the other hand, who did well in the early games, will leave no stone unturned to win this one and make a comeback.
