About the Match
Comilla Victorians suffered yet another defeat in the tournament as Khulna Titans toppled them by 13 runs in a low scoring match. Comilla Victorians will have a job to do when they meet Dhaka Dynamites tomorrow at the same venue. Dhaka Dynamites have been one of the most consistent sides in the tournament winning two out of their three games as opposed to Victorians who are yet to register a win against their name even after playing three games. The pitch hasn't offered much assistance to quick bowlers, but spinners have thrived on it. Having said that, run-scoring hasn't been particularly difficult as witnessed in the match between Barisal Bulls and Rajshahi Kings. Another loss for Comilla will hurt their already diminishing chances of making it to the final-four whereas another victory for Dhaka Dynamites will put them in a commanding position.
Mashrafe Mortaza hasn't been able to infuse the same confidence and inspiration in this team as he has done with the national squad. The three losses on the trot have only contributed to the already low confidence. Despite the presence of experienced players like Marlon Samuels, and Imrul Kayes at the top of the order, they haven't got a stable start in any of the games. Although Samuels has scored runs, his strike-rate has been a cause of concern.
In their most recent encounter, that is against Khulna Titans, they failed to chase down a modest total of 145 and ended up 14 runs short of the target. Samuels did score 30 odd runs, but his strike rate of 88 was ordinary by all standards. Almost all batsmen got the starts, but no one managed to stretch their start to a match-winning score.
Their bowlers, however, did a decent job by restricting Khulna Titans to 144 runs. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza picked up three wickets with excellent support from Sohail Tanvir who too picked up a three wickets for just 19 runs. Their bowlers have done a fine job in the tournament so far, but their batsmen have failed them more often than not. Their batsmen would have to fire all cylinders for them to stand again and present a challenge to other teams.
Unlike Comilla Victorians, the Dynamites have had a rather smooth sail. The received a defeat from the hands of Rajshahi Kings in their second game of the season. However, they registered convincing wins in the two other games. They are now placed second in the points table with a net run rate superior to all other teams.
In the most recent encounter, they thrashed Rangpur Rides who were unbeaten before that. With experienced players like Kumar Sangakkara, Nasir Hossain and Ravi Bopara in top four of their batting lineup, stopping the run flow can be difficult for the opposition. They have players like Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, the man of the match in their previous game, who can smack the ball to all parts of the ground. All-rounders like Shakib al Hasan, Dwayne Bravo, and Seekkuge Prasanna not only add depth to their batting but also provides them with option while bowling.
Overall, this Dhaka team is one of the most balanced teams in the tournament and it has reflected in their performance. It is going to be a tough ask for Victorians if the Dynamites continue to play like they played against the Riders.
The Dynamites have played beautifully till now whereas the Victorians have been found struglling more often than not. Cricket is a game of uncertainity with its shortest form being even more so, but looking the recent performances and team on paper, Dhaka Dynamites go into this game as firm favorites
