About the Match
Comilla Victorians suffered a shocking defeat against Rajshahi Kings by 30 runs in their last game, and have slipped down to the 3rd position with 10 points. They will take on Dhaka Dynamites, who are positioned 2nd with 11 points, on 29th November at Chittagong. Dynamites come here at the back of a win against Chittagong Vikings, defeating them by 7 wickets and will try to put their best foot forward here. When these two teams met earlier, the Victorians had won the contest by 4 wickets; it needs to be seen which side will emerge victorious this time around.
Chasing 186 runs against the Kings, the top-order faltered as Fakhar Zaman and Imrul Kayes were dismissed cheaply in the early overs. Captain Tamim Iqbal led from the front, posting 63 off 45 while Shoaib Malik contributed with 45; however, the others couldn’t keep the scoreboard ticking and they lost the match by 30 runs. Earlier speedsters Mohammad Saifuddin and Hasan Ali took 5 wickets between them but as a unit they couldn’t stop the Kings from setting up a tough challenge.
Hasan Ali’s brilliant 5-20 against Dynamites helped them restrict the opponents to 128; the batsmen then chased down the target easily thanks to a well-made half-century by Shoaib Malik. The batting line-up has experienced players like Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Jos Buttler, Darren Bravo and Malik, who can help them set up a solid foundation whether batting first or during chase.
The bowling unit has a balanced mix of spinners like Rashid Khan, Mehidy Hasan and Shoaib Malik, and pacers like Hasan Ali, Saifuddin and Al-Amin Hossain, who can stifle the opposition here.
Evin Lewis has been in terrific form, and he opened the innings against Vikings with a smashing 75 off 31 while chasing a target of 188. Joe Denly, Cameron Delport and captain Shakib-Al-Hasan pitched in with runs and helped them win the match by 7 wickets with an over to spare. Earlier, Sunil Narine was stupendous with his spin skills as he took a wicket and gave away less than 3 runs per over. However, others like Abu Hider Rony, Saddam Hossain and Shakib proved to be expensive.
Sunil Narine had done well against the Victorians bowlers as he posted a brilliant 76 off just 45 deliveries. However, others down the line except Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 28, gave up without a fight and they could muster only 128 runs. The total wasn’t enough for Narine and company to defend with the ball. Although speedsters Mohammad Amir and Abu Hider Rony took 3 wickets between them, and Narine also claimed 2-17, they couldn’t stop the Victorians from scoring the winning runs.
The batting line-up has strong players like Lewis, Sangakkara, Kieron Pollard and all-rounders like Shakib-Al-Hasan and Sunil Narine, who can help the team overcome the challenges on Wednesday.
Comilla Victorians had won the last time these two teams met, and they have solid resources to do so again; however, going by their recent winning form, we feel that Dhaka Dynamites will emerge victorious on Wednesday.
