About the Match
The Victorians defeated Raj Kings by 8 wickets to deny them a smooth sail to the last-four stage; the defending champions now have 6 points but still unlikely to make it to the next stage. They will take on 3rd place holders Khulna Titans on 2nd December at Dhaka. The Titans have lost their last two games and slipped down in the table; they will be determined to make a comeback with a win here. Both teams have played each other before wherein the Titans dominated to take the game away; it needs to be seen if they can repeat their match-winning performance here on Friday.
Fast bowler, Mohammad Saifuddin took 3-12 in 3 overs to demolish the Raj Kings batting line-up; he got good support from Mashrafe Mortaza, who claimed 2-24, and spinners Nabil Samad and Rashid Khan to restrict the opposition to 124 runs. Ahmed Shehzad and Marlon Samuels took charge and chased down with ease as they scored 46 and 55 runs respectively to give them their third victory this season. They have a good combination of pace and spin that can try to outwit the Titans here.
Against the Bulls, spinner Nabil Samad dismissed 3-17 to curb the opponent’s batting line-up while Rashid Khan stifled the Bulls to restrict them to 142. The batsmen then brought out their firepower with top-order players Imrul Kayes and Ahmed Shehzad scoring 46 and 61 runs respectively to steer the team across the finish line in 19 overs. Samuels also played a useful knock, and they can stabilise the innings during a chase or while setting a target against Titans too.
Overall, their recent performances have come as a consolation to the team that started this season on a poor note with a spate of losses; the bowling is sharp and the batting line-up is coming back to form, which is a good sign for the upcoming match.
Batting first against Vikings, the top-order collapsed like a pack of cards with only Wessels posting 20 off 16 while Mahmudullah led from the front scoring a well-made 42; however, with others not contributing enough, they could muster only 131 in the end. The bowlers tried hard to defend the total with players like Cooper, Mosharraf Hossain and Shuvagata Hom taking a wicket each but they had too little to fight with and lost the match by 5 wickets.
Against the Kings, Mahmudullah bowled superbly to provide the opening breakthrough while Cooper and Shafiul Islam claimed 2 wickets each but they couldn’t find an answer to Sammy. Facing a target of 155, Wessels continued with his good form posting 36 off 32 while Mahmudullah, Pooran and Ariful Haque provided good support with the bat but they fell short by 9 runs.
The Titans have done well to defeat strong teams and reach the top half of the table; they have previously defeated Victorians and this will give them the psychological advantage to do so again.
While the Titans conquered other teams throughout the league to reach the third place on the table, their recent outings exposed some weaknesses in their batting line-up. The Victorians will go out to dent their opposition’s efforts here, and going by their winning form in whole of the tournament, the Titans look well placed to emerge victorious here
