About the Match
The Titans defeated Vikings by a narrow margin of 4 runs to reach the 2nd position with 4 points; they will go up against Victorians, who are at the bottom of the table with zero points, on 13th November at Dhaka. The Victorians suffered their second consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of Bulls by 6 wickets after failing to defend a lowly 129. On the other hand, the Titans bowlers successfully prevented Vikings from reaching the 128-run target that their batsmen had set up and won the match. Both sides will put up a fierce contest on Sunday and it needs to be seen who will come out with flying colors.
Imrul Kayes’ dismal form continued and he was duck-out right in the first over against Bulls; Marlon Samuels’ brilliant run-a-ball 48 came as a ray of hope after others like Khalid Latif, Nazmul Hossain, Liton Das and all-rounder Imad Wasim failed to fire. Speedster Sohail Tanvir fought hard by posting an unbeaten 30 from just 19 balls but in the end, the total of 129 was hardly enough.
Spinner Nabil Samad was superb as he contained the opponents with 4 runs per over and by taking the crucial wicket of Shamsur Rahman; speedsters Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Sharif and spinner Imad Wasim took a wicket each but they couldn’t find a way to stop the Bulls from winning.
In the last match against Vikings, except Imad Wasim, the other bowlers put up a lacklustre performance being unable to dismiss the opponents when needed; the target of 162 was too much for them despite a good show by top-order batsman Nazmul Hossain, who scored an unbeaten 54, and useful knock of 23 by Samuels. Others need to pull up their socks here and try to build the foundation if batting first, which will give the bowlers sufficient room to fight for victory.
The batting line-up could only muster 127 runs thanks to Wessels, Kapali, Pooran and Ariful Haque, who scored in double digits. However, it was the in-form bowlers like Shafiul Islam, who took a brilliant 4-28, and the spin magician Mahmudullah, who repeated his 3-wicket haul in the crucial part of the match, who brought home sweet victory by 4 runs. This is their second win and just like the first, it came after a tough battle of nerves; they are mentally strong and can repeat the feat if faced with crunch situations.
In the match against Riders, their dismal performance with the bat exposed their batsmen’s lack of form as they were dismissed all-out for a humiliating 44; but they do have the resources to keep the winning momentum going.
Spinners like Shuvagata Hom, Mosharraf Hossain, and Mahmudullah, who is more than making up for his lack of form with the bat, are vital assets for the team. Junaid Khan, Kevon Cooper and the match-winning Shafiul Islam bring their pace attack, and they look to be a strong contingent overall.
The Victorians have plenty of talented players but they are yet to bring their best efforts to the table; although they could make a turnaround with a better performance here, we feel that the Titans who have proven to be a tough unit to crack under pressure, are better placed to win
