About the Match
The winless streak of the Victorians continued as they lost the game against Riders by 9 wickets; they will now take on Raj Kings, who are placed 6th with just 2 points, at Chittagong on 19th November. The Kings lost the contest to Vikings in their last outing and will be eager to make a comeback here; Victorians who desperately need a win right now, will try to put up a fierce fight and we could see some fireworks light up the stadium on Saturday.
It’s been a humiliating run so far for Victorians, who are the defending champions, losing all five matches; their recent loss against Riders came after the bowlers failed to defend a lowly 122 set by the batsmen. Ahmed Shehzad and Marlon Samuels put up a good show as they scored 52 runs each but they didn’t have any support from the others down the line. Sohail Tanvir bowled brilliantly but couldn’t get a breakthrough with the wickets; Mashrafe Mortaza used his pace skills to dismiss one opponent but they couldn’t combine well to stifle the Riders.
In the match against Dynamites too, the bowlers fell short in containing the run-flow of the opposition; while Rashid Khan spun well to take 3-28 and was the pick of the lot, others like Saifuddin, Mortaza, Tanvir and Nabil Samad proved to be expensive, and they ended up facing a stiff target of 195 runs. The top-order collapse didn’t help the cause and except Mortaza, who posted a superb 47 coming down at No.9, the others bucked under pressure to lose the match by 33 runs.
They have experience and young talent but aren’t able to convert their skills to victory till now; the bowlers could try to be more disciplined while the top-order needs to bring out the firepower now.
Chasing 190 against Vikings, the Kings top-order started well with players like Junaid Siddique, Sabbir Rahman, Umar Akmal and opener Mominul Haque scoring rapidly. Rahman missed out on his half-century by 4 runs, and after his dismissal, the batting line-up collapsed. They could muster only 171 in reply and lost the match by 19 runs. Earlier, the bowling was lacklustre with the speedsters like Abul Hasan, Farhad Reza and Sammy giving away too many easy runs; spinner Samit Patel claimed 2-21 but it wasn’t enough to restrict the opposition.
Against Barisal Bulls too, the batsmen had to face a challenging target of 193 runs, which they fell short of by a painful 4 runs; Sabbir Rahman played a special innings as he posted a superlative 122 off just 61 deliveries but with not much support from others like Umar Akmal, Raqibul Hasan and Patel, they couldn’t cross the finish line. They have good bowling resources in Farhad Reza, Patel, Mehedi Hasan and Abul Hasan, who can strategize well against the Victorians here.
Overall, they have the skills and determination to win again, and they will definitely fight hard to do so against the out of form Victorians.
While the Victorians are eager to end their misery with a much-needed win, we feel that Raj Kings, who have twice come close to chasing down huge targets, are better placed to emerge victorious here
