About the Match
Comilla Victorians registered a thumping victory against Dhaka Dynamites by 4 wickets to take the top spot on the table with 10 points; they will take on Rajshahi Kings, who continue to be in the 6th place with 4 points, on 27th November at Chittagong. Both teams played against each other earlier wherein the Victorians won by 9 wickets, and they will look to repeat the winning performance again. The Kings on the other hand, have suffered a spate of losses and are desperate for a win now; it needs to be seen if they can bounce back here.
Fast-bowlers Hasan Ali put up a stupendous performance against Dynamites, taking 5-20 in less than 4 overs; along with Mohammad Saifuddin and spinner Rashid Khan, he restricted the opponents to a meager 128. Then the batsmen chased down the target with ease, thanks to an unbeaten 54 by Shoaib Malik. Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal tried to set a good foundation but they could pitch in only with 20 and 18 runs respectively.
Against the Kings in the earlier match, the bowlers had yet again put up a brilliant show restricting them to 115 runs; Mohammad Nabi took 3 wickets while others like Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo and Al-Amin Hossain dismissed one wicket each. The batsmen led by Jos Buttler’s 50 off 39 and 44 runs scored by Imrul Kayes, chased down the target successfully to win the match by 9 wickets.
Overall, the team has done well with bat and ball and proven to be a tough nut to crack. They will be high on morale to continue with their winning momentum on Saturday.
Batting first against Victorians, Lendl Simmons was the lone performer in the top-order, scoring 40 runs before retiring hurt; others like Rony Talukdar, Mominul Haque, and James Franklin failed to impress. Farhad Reza put up an all-rounder performance, scoring 25 runs to take the total to 115 runs and being the lone wicket-taker later. However, there were too few runs on board to fight for, and they lost the match by 9 wickets. Mohammad Sami and Mehidy Hasan bowled economically but couldn’t provide any breakthroughs.
Against Khulna Titans, the batsmen did well to post 166 runs thanks to Dwayne Smith’s 62 off 36 and a well-made 55 by Mushfiqur Rahim. James Franklin contributed with 29 runs and took 2 wickets later to showcase his all-rounder skills. Mohammad Sami claimed 3 wickets while Mehidy Hasan and Hossain Ali dismissed one wicket each to try and stifle the Titans. However, they couldn’t stop the hard-hitting Titans from scoring the winning runs.
The Kings have good resources with bat and ball, but they will have to strategize well against table-toppers Victorians to outwit them this time.
The contest could be well fought by both teams but we feel that Comilla Victorians, who are flying high on their winning form are better placed to defeat Rajshahi Kings again on Saturday.
