About the Match
The Victorians continue to be at the bottom of the table with zero points so far, and they will now go up against Rangpur Riders, who are placed 4th with 4 points, on 18th November at Chittagong. The Riders lost heavily against Dynamites recently by a margin of 78 runs after failing to chase down 171; they will try to go back to their winning ways with a much better performance here on Friday. On the other hand, Victorians have been winless till now and need a win to stay in the competition; it needs to be seen if they can finally make a breakthrough or surrender to defeat yet again.
They lost their match against Dynamites after the batting line-up crumbled under pressure once again; top-order batsmen like Imrul Kayes, Ahmed Shehzad, Nazmul Hossain and Ryan ten Doeschate failed to fire with the bat and they could only muster 161 runs in reply to the opposition’s challenging 194. Captain Mashrafe Mortaza led from the front with a well-made 47 but it wasn’t enough to cross the finish line.
Earlier, spinner Rashid Khan bowled well taking 3-28 and Al-Amin also dismissed one opponent; however, the others leaked away too many runs leading to the humungous target. In the match against Titans, speedsters Mortaza and Sohail Tanvir took 3 wickets each while spinner Nasmul Hossain claimed 2-9 in 2 overs with his spin skills; they combined well to restrict the opponent to 144. However, the batsmen didn’t stand up to their responsibilities and lost the contest without a fight; Tanvir played a useful knock, and proved to be a sturdy all-rounder in crunch situations.
Overall, they have a good mix of experienced batsmen and bowlers, who can try to improve their efforts with bat and ball to start winning matches before it gets too late.
The top-order collapsed while chasing 171 against Dynamites with players like Mohammad Shahzad, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun and Shahid Afridi getting dismissed cheaply. Captain Naeem Islam scored 26 runs and Dawson contributed with 16 but with no steady partnerships, the Riders lost the match by a huge 78-run margin.
Spinners Sohag Gazi and Shahid Afridi were successful with 2 wickets each while Dawson and Arafat Sunny contributed with a wicket each; they bring variety to the attack and with speedsters like Rubel Hossain and Richard Gleeson, they can restrict the opponents here. In the match against Titans, Afridi took a superb 4-12 in 3 overs and along with Sunny’s excellent 3-0, they demolished the opposition for just 44 runs on board, which they achieved without a sweat and won the match.
Their bowling attack is strong with in-form spinners like Afridi, Sunny and Sohag Gazi while Naeem Islam, Gleeson and Dawson add depth to the squad. They have experienced batsmen who can try to build a good foundation whether batting first or during chase.
While both teams come here at the back of a loss, they will put up a fierce fight to exploit the weaknesses of the other side. The Riders have performed better than the Victorians till now and they definitely are clear favourites to win this match on Friday
