About the Match
Leading the table with 6 points from 4 matches, Victorians have proved to be a tough contingent till now; they will meet Super Stars for the 14th match of the league on 30th November at Chittagong. The Super Stars are at rock bottom with zero points yet and need to win this match if they want to start climbing up the ladder; having lost all their matches so far, Super Stars need to come out all guns blazing here. The Victorians on the other hand are on a roller-coaster ride, having lost only 1 match till now; they will be pumped up about continuing with their winning momentum on Monday.
They have a well-rounded unit with established batsmen and in-form bowlers who leave no stone unturned to win a match; against the Riders in the last match, the superb show by Kulasekara, who claimed 4-12, demolished the opponent’s batting line-up, and with help from Abu Hider, Narine and Ashar Zaidi, they contained the Riders to a lowly 82 runs. Marlon Samuels posted a brilliant knock of 42 off just 24 balls while Imrul Kayes scored 24 runs to take the team home to victory.
Against the Bulls, Kulasekara was yet again in tremendous form as he scalped 3 wickets giving away just 8 runs in 3 overs; he was supported well by Zaidi who took 3-16 and Abu Hider who took 2 wickets. The batsmen chased down the low target of 90 runs with 2 overs to spare wherein Mahmudul Hasan scored 31 off 43 and Samuels along with Shuvagata Som ensured they crossed the finish line with ease.
They have an excellent bowling attack with Kulasekara on top of the game at the moment; with Narine, Hider, Zaidi and Mashrafe Mortaza in the unit, Victorians definitely look charged to win the upcoming match.
Sylhet Super Stars
The team has good bowlers and batsmen but they haven’t found the strength to overcome pressure situations and win a match till now; against Dynamites, the bowlers gave away too many easy runs although Shahid, Edwards, Munaweera and Ahmed took regular wickets. Faced with 167-run target, the batsmen started the chase well; Nurul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahman were the promising stars but others fell like a pack of cards when it mattered the most, losing the match by 34 runs.
Against Riders too, they came close to winning the match but the nerves got the better of them at the end; chasing a target of 110 runs, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim combined well to get the runs on board but players like Cobb, Nazmul Islam and Ravi Bopara proved to be sitting ducks. Earlier, the bowlers had done well to restrict the opposition to a meager 109; Mohammad Shahid took 4-12 and proved to be deadly whereas Bopara was the most economical with a wicket and just 2 runs per over.
Overall, they have a good mix of experienced batsmen and bowlers, youngsters with talent and are motivated to stay alive; they must perform better here if they want to move ahead in the series.
While Super Stars have not won a match yet, they have come close to winning couple of times; they need to be determined here in order to challenge the high flying Victorians. On the other hand, Victorians are on a juggernaut here and nothing seems to stop them from surging ahead; they definitely look better placed to win the match on Monday
