CS vs OV Match Prediction - Dec 03, 2022

The Central Districts will be looking to move to make it two in two as it faces the Otago Volts on Sunday, in match number 8 of the ongoing season of the Ford Trophy.

On most cricket betting sites, Central Districts seem to have an upper hand. But seeing how they were demolished by some quality bowling in the last match, they will surely have to pull up their socks if they want to win here.

CS vs OV Team Previews

Central Districts

The Central Districts won its opening match of the season, which was played against the Otago Volts last week, by 9 wickets. However, they come into this game on the back of a big loss against Wellington.

All eyes will be on Dane Cleaver, who is the only batsman from the Central Districts camp, who appears to be in good form and is also the top-scorer of the tournament so far. Cleaver scored an unbeaten 99 in the first match against Otago and will be looking to emulate his performance.

Will Young too played well in the opening match but was out without disturbing the scorers in the second. As many as 6 batsmen from the Central Districts lineup were out for a duck in the match against Wellington, including Ross Taylor and Brad Schmulian and that will be a big concern for the captain. The bowlers have done a much better job compared to the batsmen, with both Tickner and Rance picking up 6 wickets each, while Brett Randell is close behind with 5 wickets.

Otago Volts

The Volts did lose their opening game, but came back strongly in the next one, beating the Auckland Aces by 6 wickets. Chasing a modest target of 188, the Volts lost captain Hamish Rutherford on the very second delivery of their innings. But Llew Johnson and Dale Phillips stitched a 145-run partnership to guide the team to a victory.

Johnson scored 81, while Phillips was out after playing a patient inning of 69 runs. Anaru Kitchen and Neil Broom, who were two of the top scorers for Otago last season, have since retired. In their absence, much will depend on the form of Hamish Rutherford as well as Michael Rippon. Rippon made an excellent all-round effort for his team last season, scoring a total of 157 runs and picking up 11 wickets.

Matthew Bacon bowled exceedingly well last season and was the joint-highest wicket-taker, and will once again be the mainstay of Otago’s bowling. Supporting him will be Jacob Duffy and Ben Lockrose.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at New Plymouth is a balanced one offering plenty of opportunities to both the batsmen as well as the bowlers. The only ODI played here saw both the teams scoring over 300, and we can expect another high-scoring encounter. That being said, the quicker bowlers will find some good swing due to windy conditions, and bounce, especially at the beginning of the game. The weather is expected to remain overcast throughout the day, with the temperature remaining below the 20-degree mark.

CS vs OV Betting Tips

Despite the batsmen of the Central Districts not being in the best of forms, we are predicting a win for them due to the excellent form of their bowlers. Also, some of the key players from Otago, who performed well in the last season, are missing this time around.
