The Central Districts Stags are the next Super Smash team to get into the tournament as they play their first game against the Wellington Firebirds. This is going to be the second match for the Firebirds after they won their opening encounter against Auckland.
Most of the big name players were missing from the previous match and that is something that we expect to happen in this match as well. It also opens up the [possibility of a lot more uncertainty in the Super Smash this season.
Central Districts vs Wellington Firebirds Super Smash 2020-21 is going to be played at McLean Park, Napier on the 27th of December 2020.
The Central Stags have a pretty strong squad when all of their players are available but that is not the case and so we cannot count players like Ajaz Patel, Ross Taylor, Will Young, and Adam Milne.
Even the availability of Blair Tickner is in question as most of the NZ players not involved in the test matches did not turn up in the previous match.
Even without the current crop of international players, the Central Stags have Doug Bracewell, Tom Bruce, Christian Leopard, Seth Rance, and Ben Wheeler to call upon. This gives it a very decent lineup that should be able to perform strongly with both the bat and ball.
We expect the Central Stags to be one of the major contenders for the Super Smash this season.
George Worker, Bayley Wiggins, Dane Cleaver, Tom Bruce, Josh Clarkson, KN Barnett, Doug Bracewell, Christian Leopard, Joey Field, Ajaz Patel, Blair Tickner.
The Wellington Firebirds came away with a win after an efficient chase. They managed to hunt down 177 in the last over of the match without too much trouble. Finn Allen made an aggressive half century opening the batting while Troy Johnson also scored 50 batting at number three.
Rachin Ravindra and Michael Bracewell, the two names people were most excited about, failed in the previous match. Fraser Colson and Jamie Gibson played effective cameos to show that the Wellington Firebirds have a decent amount of depth in their lineup.
We are still not convinced about the batting for this lineup just, yet though.
A good bowling lineup could expose the weaknesses here easily.
Lohan van Beek and Hamish Bennett are the leaders of this bowling attack. The Firebirds do not have a strong bowling attack but there was enough to see in the previous match that they are going to be competitive.
Rachin Ravindra and Michael Snedden are pretty decent while Younghusband had an excellent previous match.
Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Troy Johnson, James Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Fraser Colson, Jamie Gibson, Logan van Beek, PY Husband, Hamish Bennett.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Defending a total is always tricky in New Zealand because of the small dimensions of their grounds.

There is a bit of rain around in Napier and so the possibility of some reduction in the overs exists. The pitch should be flat with a lot of runs on offer but there is always a bit of movement for the new ball bowlers.
A score around 175-180 should be seen as par batting first.
We are backing the Central Stags to start their Super Smash 2020-21 campaign with a win. They have the experience in their lineup and boast of a lot of quality even without the New Zealand international players available for selection.
Bet on the Central Districts Stags to win.
