CS vs WF Match Prediction - Nov 29, 2022

The Central Districts will be looking to further consolidate its position at the top of the points table, as it takes on Wellington in match no. 6 in the ongoing edition of the Ford Trophy.

The odds are heavily in the favour of the Central Districts, which means that punters will get pretty small returns on outright bets. They will need to place a few side bets to make the most out of this match.

CS vs WF Team Previews

Central Districts

The Central Districts finished at the top of the points table in the last season but lost the finals to Auckland. Nevertheless, the team has started its latest campaign on a winning note, defeating Otago by 9 wickets in the opening match.

Brett Randell was the top bowler for the Central Districts, picking up 3 wickets for just 33 runs. He was well supported by Blair Tickner and Seth Rance. Rance topped the list of highest wicket-takers for the Central Districts in the last season and is once again likely to play an important role as the tournament progresses.

Dane Cleaver and Will Young stitched a partnership of 122 runs to guide the Central Districts to a win in the last match, with Cleaver remaining unbeaten on 99 runs. The middle order looks pretty solid too, as Ross Taylor, Tom Bruce, and Josh Clarkson are all in good touch. Dough Bracewell has been a great all-round asset for the team. He scored 131 runs and picked up 9 wickets in the last season.

Wellington Firebirds

Wellington had a disappointing start to the tournament, as they lost their opening match against Canterbury by a huge margin of 102 runs. Chasing a total of 267 runs, the whole team was bundled out for 165 runs in the 29th over.

Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra gave the team a decent start, but the middle order collapsed dramatically, with just Nick Kelly managing to reach double digits. Ollie Newton played a little cameo of 44 runs lower down the order, but the effort was in vain. Newton was good with the ball too, as he picked up 2 wickets in his quota of 10 overs. Snedden was quite expensive but picked up 3 wickets.

However, none of the other bowlers managed to impact the proceedings. Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, and Nathan Smith, who were among the top scorers for the team last season, aren’t available this time. In their absence, much of the responsibilities will fall on the shoulders of Troy Johnson, Luke Georgeson, and Blundell. Logan van Beek was the top wicket-taker in the last season, and will once again play an important role this time around.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Fitzherbert Park is excellent to bat on, especially in the first innings. However, as the game progresses, it tends to get a bit slow and will aid the spinners. Anything over 220 will be difficult to chase in the second innings. The weather is expected to be chilly, with spells of rain forecast throughout the day, which may lead to some interruptions.

CS vs WF Betting Tips

We are backing the Central Districts to win this match. The team has made a good start to the season, and will likely continue to build up on the momentum. On the other hand, Wellington is missing a couple of key players from the last season.

Dane Cleaver has started this season on an excellent note, scoring an unbeaten 99. Brad Schmulian, who accompanied him at the top of the order in the last match, has an impressive average of 44.66 in List A matches. In the last season, he scored 187 runs from 4 innings, at an average of 62. We, therefore, think that both these batsmen are capable of giving Central Districts a better start.
