Four losses from four games is not the time to be coming up against one of the strongest teams in the competition but that is exactly what is going to happen for the Chepauk Super Gillies. The defending champions are yet to win a single match in the tournament and their hopes of making the playoffs are only mathematical at this point in time. The Jones Tuti Patriots also come into this game with everything to play for. They have won just two of the four matches they have played so far and know they need to win at least two out of their last three games to qualify.
It was difficult to comprehend the fall in fortunes for the Chepauk Super Gillies from last season but the draft reshuffle seems to have hit them hard. The loss of a couple of key players and the unavailability of outstation players possibly played havoc with the teams' plans but the other teams also are playing with the same restrictions.
The batting for the Super Gillies has been absolutely terrible. They have chased in all the four games they have played and ended up losing by some big margins. A look at the stats card shows that M Ashwin is leading the side in terms of runs scored. Considering the fact that he is a lower order batsman at best, this should worry the Super Gillies.
Only one player has scored a fifty for the team up until now and none of the top-order batsmen have hit more than three sixes in the tournament so far.
These are dismal stats that do not bode well for the Chepauk Super Gillies going forward. Batsmen like Sasidev, Gopinath, and Karthik need to start contributing more otherwise it is difficult to see the defending champions win a single game this season.
M Ashwin leads the bowling stats as well with the most wickets taken and the best economy rate out of all the bowlers. Harish Kumar, B Arun, and Sunny Kumar Singh have done well so far but this bowling attack needs some support from the batsmen.
S Karthik , Ganga Sridhar Raju, H Gopinath, Uthirasamy Sasidev, A Arif, Murugan Ashwin, S Harish Kumar, R Alexander, M Siddharth, Arun Kumar, R Vishaal.
Two superb victories to start the tournament have given way to two defeats in the last two matches. The Patriots would be disappointed that its bowling was not able to defend good totals on both the occasions but be happy about the performances of its batsmen.
The team has three batsmen that have scored more than a hundred runs so far. KM Gandhi leads the lost with 171 runs, S Dinesh with 140 runs, and R Sathish with 133 runs to his name have all ensured that the Patriots are able to get to good scores on most occasions.
Even other players like Srinivasan and Anand have scored when they have got the opportunity and are about to break the hundred runs mark themselves. This makes the Jones Tuti Patriots batting lineup the most consistent in the tournament.
The focus for the team will be to improve its bowling performance and close out matches that the batsmen have set up. Athisayaraj Davidson has 9 wickets to his name, Sai Kishore has 4, and Akash Sumra has 6. These three will be the ones that the Tuti Patriots are going to look to when the going gets tough.
The Jones Tuti Patriots have a well-rounded side and even though they are going through a bump in their campaign, this is one team that we expect to see in the playoffs.
S Dinesh, Kaushik Gandhi, Subramanian Anand, Rajagopal Sathish, S Abishiek, Akshay V Srinivasan, Malolan Rangarajan, M Ganesh Moorthi, Ravisrinivasan S Kishore, Rajamani Jesuraj, V Athisayaraj Davidson.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first
A dry but humid day has been forecast for Chennai on match day. There has been some rain around which could hamper the preparation of the pitch but is unlikely to change the underlying nature of the surface. A slow pitch with some turn in it for the spinners and nothing in it for the faster men is expected.
The batsmen should be able to score well with the new ball but the older ball will be difficult to get away. A score of about 150 should be considered par.
The Jones Tuti Patriots side is the better side in this contest and we think they will prevail.
Back the Jones Tuti Patriots to win.
