The Chepauk Super Gillies are getting ready to take on the VB Kanchi Veerans in the TNPL and it is a match with no significance towards the tournament as a whole. Both the teams occupy the bottom of the table right now and have no chance of making it to the knockouts. Fans of both the teams will have a different outlook, however, as they would hope to see their team end this year’s campaign with some respect.
Can the Chepauk Super Gillies register their first win or will the VB Kanchi Veerans add further insult to injury?
An improved batting performance by the Chepauk Super Gillies in their last match would have raised some hope in the fans but it proved to be insufficient in the end. The bowlers were unable to stop the Tuti Patriots from winning the game easily as Chepauk slumped to its fifth defeat in five matches.
S Karthik and Sridhar Raju got the team off to a good start even though it was a little sedate. They will hope to continue and build on their starts if they get the opportunity to do so in the next game. Gopinath played another dour inning and it was only Harish Kumar that was able to inject some momentum into the game.
The Chepauk Super Gillies is a side riddled with self-doubt. The players seemed to be worried about making mistakes rather than pushing the scoring. The end result was a below-par total that their bowlers could not defend.
A poor outing for M Ashwin put the Gillies under even more pressure during their bowling stint. None of the frontline bowlers could take a wicket and two big partnerships from the opposition effectively ended the game.
The bowling for the Chepauk team is not going to improve overnight and that is where we believe the Veerans could gain an edge.

The VB Kanchi Veerans won a thrilling low scoring match against the Lyca Kovai Kings in the previous match and that should fill them with confidence going up against the Chepauk Super Gillies.
The VB Kanchi Veerans have two matches remaining in the tournament and even though their chances of making the knockouts are over, they could still win the matches and end up with a respectable tally. They will also want to avoid being a punching bag for the teams above them during this final push.
Baba Aparajith played a good knock of 41 in the last match on a difficult pitch. His lack of form is one of the reasons why the VB Kanchi Veerans have failed to leave a mark in the tournament. Now that he has spent some time in the middle, Aparajith can be expected to take toll of the weak Chepauk bowling.
Siddharth continues to struggle up the order and even though Arun got some runs in the last match, a change in the batting order could be necessary. The emergence of Hariharan and Francis in the middle order has helped the Veerans have some semblance of depth to their batting.
An excellent outing for Aushik Srinivas and Divakar in the last match showed the importance of a good bowling attack. Both the players managed to up their game when the team needed it and helped defend a below-par total.
If they can continue to bowl with the same passion then they have an excellent chance of getting past the struggling Chepauk Super Gillies.

The team winning the toss is likely to bat first
The batting conditions in Dindigul will be much better than they were in Tirunelveli but the spinners are still going to have a major role to play. The pitch has started to slow up and scores will come down than from the start of the tournament.
There is some rain expected on match day although it should clear up by the time the match gets underway. We are expecting a full match to be played out. The par score should be somewhere in the region of 150.
