We have seen some brilliant run chases in the history of IPL and if this one is successful, which is likely going to be the case, it will be right up there. Shikhar Dhawan is playing a blinder of an innings and took pressure off Shaw early in the innings. He also grabbed three important catches in the first innings. Dhawan is certainly the prime candidate of getting the man of the match award for his scintillating knock.
Delhi's batsmen are both set are literally missing nothing. None of the Super Kings' bowlers have looked threatening. Considering that and if it does we expect the next wicket to come due to some lapse of concentration by batsmen, making caught the most likely mode of expected dismissal.
Powerplay has just finished and Chennai Super Kings have a hard task at their hands. They have a terrific battery of spin bowling, but this surface doesn't favor spin as much as some of the other surfaces in India. Dhoni is a master of middle-overs and we expect him to rotate his bowlers effectively. Expect a wicket to come in next few overs.
The surface at Mumbai is not as good as we know it to be. It was a bit on the slower side in the first innings and it is likely to be the case in the second innings as well. Although Delhi are likely to come out hard, they would need to spend a wee bit of extra time to get acquainted to the conditions. We don't expect them to exceed the 51-run mark at the end of the powerplay.
We are at that stage of the innings from where risk appetite of batting teams grows manifold. Chennai Super Kings have some terrific batsmen to come, who all can smack the ball a long way. CSK are more likely to hit in the ball in the air hereon and fours are less likely to come. Therefore, the total number of fours hit in this innings are not likely to exceed 13.
The Super Kings got off to the worst possible start, losing two wickets for not many runs on the board. Their openers partnered for just 7 runs for the first wicket. Delhi Capitals have a decent opening players with both of their openers in terrific form. They should easily add at least eight runs together. This is an excellent bet for those looking to play it safe.
Chennai Super Kings seemed to be beginning from where they left last year - with apparent lack of intent at the top. They lost two early wickets, but Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina have steadied the ship. Considering that they bat deep and have Powe-hitters yet to come on this batting beauty of a surface, we expect them to easily post an innings total over 180.

Alright then. The day we have all been waiting for is finally upon us. The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin on 9th April 2021. While international cricket is slowly and surely adding excitement to cricket, there can be nothing like IPL when it comes to competitive T20 cricket. It is after a long wait of two years that IPL will be played in India, but much to everyone's disappointment, it will be played behind closed doors.
The second match of the 14th edition will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. The two teams had contrasting fortunes last year and they both would want to make a better impact this year. Chennai Super Kings would once again want to get back amongst the top teams whereas Delhi Capitals would want to continue to build on their solid last year's performance. Both sides had excellent auctions and will be confident before their first match, which is to be played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 10th April 2021.
Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous last year as they failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time ever in the history of the competition. With MS Dhoni nearing retirement, CSK are in the rebuilding phase and this edition of IPL will be of massive importance for them before the scheduled mega-auction of 2022.
With Shane Watson already retired, we'll likely see Chennai come out with a new-look opening pair. Faf du Plessis and Rituraj Gaikwad showed immense promise during the back-end in the previous edition and they could be the first choice openers for the Super Kings. We may also see Uthappa come out with Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf taking a spot in the middle-order.
Suresh Raina's return will certainly boost Chennai Super Kings' confidence and morale. In the last edition, they lacked someone who can take on the bowlers right from the word go, and with Raina back, they'll have a number three that can play with intent right from the very beginning.
The Super Kings have an excellent middle-order, but MS Dhoni certainly has a problem of plenty. With the likes of Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Krishnappa Gautam, C Hari Nishaanth, Cheteshwar Pujara, and N Jagadeesan and choosing between them will be a huge headache. While fans will be looking forward to seeing Pujara play in yellow, he is unlikely to be part of CSK's first eleven. Having said that, Pujara could very well be used strategically by MS Dhoni in Chennai where the surface is a lot trickier to play than Mumbai.
The Super Kings were guilty of lacking intent last year and with a batting lineup that goes deep, we expect them to play an aggressive brand of cricket this year. With the likes of Gowtham, Thakur, Jadeja, Santner, and Moeen Ali, the Super Kings have plenty of bowling options that can be game-changing with the bat as well.
With an excellent captain in MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have never looked a weak team, at least on paper. The same is the case this time too as they have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience. They looked over-aged and fragile on the field last year, but the return of Raina and the addition of Gowtham could be the missing spark they need. They have good fast bowling options in Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi, who both could be mighty effective at Wankhede. The team has already started training in Chennai and will be raring to go. The Super Kings are heavy on experience and beating them is going to take a lot of effort for a young Capitals' unit.
Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, SK Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, SN Thakur, Deepak Chahar.
Delhi Capitals were one of the better teams last year and their runners-up position is evidence enough of that. They were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the final last year and will want to go one step further this time around. The Capitals reaped the rewards of backing their youngsters over the last few years and with the Indian talent they have, they could be a tough team to deal with this year as well.
Shreyas Iyer played a massive role in the Captials' run last year and his absence would be a massive setback for the Capitals. Iyer got injured in the first ODI against England and his absence leaves a humongous void not just in the batting but also with respect to captaincy. Having said that, with many former skippers around, Delhi Capitals should not have problems in replacing Iyer as a captain.
Despite that the Capitals had a prolific run last year, we saw them releasing as many as six players before this year's auction. They had a terrific fast bowling unit and boosted it further with the inclusion of Umesh Yadav. Another key man they got was Steve Smith, who could come in a handy addition, especially in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
Delhi Capitals' major problem last year was an inconsistent opening pair as Prithvi Shaw was caught napping more often than not. However, the form that Shaw has shown in the Vijay Hazare trophy should imbibe a lot of confidence among the team. The Capitals draw their strength from their superb fast-bowling unit. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje were fabulous last year and the addition of Tom Curran, Umesh Yadav, and Chris Woakes is only going to add to their strength.
With Shreyas Iyer no longer available, the Capitals' side suddenly looks a little hollow in the middle. They desperately need some experience in their middle-order and would, therefore, need to pick their overseas players rather carefully. Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje are likely to be sure starters, which leaves place for only one overseas player. We think that the Capitals will need their own sweet time to get their combination right. All in all, there's no dearth of talent, power, or experience at the Capitals, but they'll need to get their balance right early in the competition. If they can do that, they'll be a force to reckon with yet again.
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, RR Pant, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, CR Woakes, Tom Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Avesh khan.

While the two sides had contrasting runs last year, both sides will be brimming with confidence after completing their requirements in the auction. Chennai Super Kings seemingly plugged all the gaps that were there last year and should do a lot better in this edition. Just when it looked that Delhi Capitals have everything they would need, the injury to Shreyas Iyer may well turn out to be a dampener for them. It has taken away their immaculate balance, which they'll have to find quickly. On paper, Chennai Super Kings appear to be a better-balanced side between the two. Furthermore, they have experience and class oozing right through their lineup. For those reasons and the ones stated above, we'll be placing our bets on CSK's win and so should you.
If there's one bowler who is on a roll, he is Shardul Thakur. Thakur has been one of India's most reliable bowlers in recent times, as far as picking up wickets is concerned. He bowls both at the death and in the powerplay and will, therefore, have ample opportunity to pick up wickets. Shardul Thakur has been in excellent form and is our pick for this bet of top-wicket taker for Chennai Super Kings.
Delhi Capitals have many top-order batsmen and only a few slots to accommodate them all. While the absence of Shreyas Iyer allows an additional player to be roped in, the focus will be on Rishabh Pant. Pant has been in terrific form across formats and will want to continue playing differentiating innings in IPL as well. He will have an additional responsibility of leading the side and will arguably bat a little higher in the batting order. Even though Pant scoring most runs for the Capitals is a risky punt, we believe the risk is worth the rewards, considering the form Pant is in. Certainly a bet to place your money on.
Shikhar Dhawan was one of the most consistent batsmen for the Capitals last year and scored over 500 runs in total. He looked in superb form against England in the recently concluded series, although in a different format. He opens the innings and will, therefore, have enough time to pace himself. Considering that, Dhawan shouldn't find it too difficult to score.
