It is time for Qualifier 2 IPL 2019 and our two teams are set. The Chennai Super Kings lost Qualifier 1 to the Mumbai Indians while the Delhi Capitals won their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both these teams will now meet in Qualifier 2 to see who goes to the IPL 2019 final to play the Mumbai Indians.
The match is going to be played at Visakhapatnam, the same venue as the Eliminator, and that could be a small advantage for Delhi. Chennai Super Kings have won both their matches against Delhi in IPL 2019 with ease and they were also played on surfaces where the spinners reigned supreme.
Can the young superstars of Delhi Capitals make it past the most successful captain India has ever had? Everything points to a mouth-watering clash.
The Chennai Super Kings were beaten very easily by the Mumbai Indians at their own stronghold of Chennai. It was a loss that would have shaken the confidence of the unflappable MS Dhoni as well. Chennai Super Kings have been struggling with their batting for the entire tournament now and they cannot afford another poor showing against Delhi.
We believe that Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings are at their best when the surface is a little slow and there is some spin to take advantage of. The previous match played at Visakhapatnam showed clear signs of the wicket slowing up.
This is something that will encourage the Chennai team management.
It was also clear from Stephen Flemming’s press conference after the previous match that Chennai will not be making too many changes to its side. Players like Shane Watson who have not performed well this season will be given another chance to make amends.
Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Amabati Rayadu, and Murali Vijay do not make a very dependable top-order, at least on current form. Only Faf du Plessis has had some sustained success this year. Not only are the players out of form but they are not very quick scorers even when they do score some runs.
This is why the pitch report is going to be very crucial. If the pitch is good for batting then Chennai Super Kings are at a disadvantage against the strong Delhi Capitals.
As far as the bowling goes, Dhoni has a lot more to work with. The Chennai bowling attack has been very economical. In fact, alongside Delhi, Chennai has been the most economical bowling unit in IPL 2019. The ability of Deepak Chahar to pick early wickets, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir to keep things tight, and Dwayne Bravo to take charge in the end overs is difficult to compete against.
As Mumbai showed in the previous match, though, even this excellent bowling attack needs some runs to defend.
Faf du Plessis, SR Watson, SK Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, SN Thakur, Imran Tahir.
Delhi finally won its first IPL playoff match in the history and it was a win that did not come easy. The bowling attack first staged a comeback after Martin Guptill seemed to be taking the game away from them and then the batting collapsed in the middle to make the match very close.
The young players of Delhi did not lose heart and played fearless cricket to win their side the match. Now, with Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishab Pant in form, the Delhi batting is looking stronger than Chennai’s.
Delhi picked Colin Munro in place of Colin Ingram in the previous match. Munro is not the most comfortable against spin and has to play out of position in the middle order, however, we think he is likely to get another chance in this match.
The addition of Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul to the side is also quite intriguing. These are two young T20 players that are not as highly regarded as some of the other bigger names but make a big impact whenever they get the chance.
Both of them also lengthen the Delhi batting and protect it against a potential collapse.
The Delhi bowling is also performing quite well. Ishant Sharma has been excellent with the new ball while Amit Mishra is bowling at his best. Mishra has given the least boundaries per number of balls bowled in the entire tournament apart from Ravindra Jadeja.
Mishra has had a tough time against Dhoni in the past and that is something he will be aware of.
Axar Patel, Trent Boult, and the two West Indians make this a quite varied attack.
Delhi has won 8 out of its last 10 matches and is in very good form. It has, however, lost against Chennai quite convincingly the two times it has played against Chennai in IPL 2019.
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Colin Munro, Axar Patel, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Amit Mishra, TA Boult, I Sharma.
The team that wins the toss is going to bat second. There was a lot of dew in the Eliminator and the same is expected for this match as well. Chasing is a definite advantage.

Qualifier 2 IPL 2019 between the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Capitals will be played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. The weather is expected to be clear and there is no threat of rain.
The pitch is going to be the center of attention. History has shown that spin is going to be much more difficult to score off than pace. This was true for the Eliminator as well. The team that plays and bowls spin better is going to emerge victorious.
A score of around 160 is par at the surface.
We rate form very highly when we are picking Dream11 teams this is why we have tried to pick players that have done well recently for the Dream 11 team for Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals. Look for final updates to the team after the toss on twitter by following @cricketbettings.
Wicketkeeper: Both MS Dhoni and Rishab Pant could play a crucial role in this match. Dhoni has been the backbone of the Chennai batting while Rishab Pant has played a couple of match-winning innings as well. For this match, we have picked Pant seeing the kind of destruction he can cause in the previous match although repeating the same against Chennai's spinners is going to be difficult.
Batsmen: We have picked on three batsmen for this match. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Faf du Plessis. This is a risky decision but taken keeping the pitch conditions in mind. The Chennai batsmen are not in good form and we would rather have their bowlers in the side. This selection gives us three out of the Delhi top-4 as well. Faf du Plessis is the lone Chennai batsman and the best equipped to score runs under pressure situations.
All-rounders: We have picked the spin bowling all-rounders from both the teams. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja may have a big role to play if the pitch starts to take some turn. We may choose to substitute one of the players for a batsman based on the toss and final pitch report.
Bowlers: Imran Tahir, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Harbhajan Singh, and Keemo Paul are the bowlers that we have picked in the side. This gives us all the spinners in the match and one of the best fast bowlers too. Once again, the balance of this attack is heavily tilted towards spin at the moment and may change after the toss has been conducted.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Shikhar Dhawan and Imran Tahir as our captain and vice-captain for this match respectively.
Winning the toss is going to be a big advantage at this venue. There was due during the second half of the match in the Eliminator and the same is expected for Qualifier 2 as well. The side that bats second will have a big advantage.
Generally, conditions which favor spin play right in the hands of the Chennai Super Kings but we think the Delhi Capitals have a good chance of winning here. There batting is in good rhythm and the bowling is performing as per expectations too.
The ability of youngsters to play without fear is a big advantage.
Back the Delhi Capitals to win.
