It has been a rough start for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019. They have lost both the matches they have played so far and now travel to Chennai to play against the defending champions. The M.A Chidambaram Stadium is a daunting venue for most visiting sides especially when CSK is in form. The Chennai Super Kings have two wins from two matches in IPL 2019 so far and will be looking to build on that start.
The focus will also be on the pitch for this contest. The opening match of the IPL was held in Chennai and that surface was not good for T20 cricket at all. RCB got bowled out for 70 and the ball spun from the very first ball. Hopefully, Chepauk will serve up something better this time around.
CSK has played both of its first two games on surfaces where spin was a big factor and come out trumps. They have three gun spinners in their middle which gives them an instant advantage. Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, and Harbhajan Singh bowl the bulk of the overs for Chennai and make it very difficult for the opposition to score freely.
MS Dhoni has kept the same combination for his first two games and we don’t think he is going to change things up right now. Imran Tahir is the bowler that we think is going to be crucial for CSK’s success in this match.
Dhoni likes to bowl Shardul Thakur majorly in the first powerplay and it will be interesting to see how he responds if the opposition batsmen can hit him out of the attack. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar are not the best fast bowlers going around but Dhoni’s captaincy ensures they are used in comparatively low-pressure situations throughout the match.
The death bowling is going to handled by Dwayne Bravo. His mix of cutters is very difficult to face on the slow Chepauk pitch and he could easily turn out to be the highest wicket-taker for CSK in this match.
CSK’s batting is a bit better fleshed out this year thanks to the presence of Kedar Jadhav in the middle order. Shane Watson, Ambati Rayadu, Suresh Raina, Jadhav, Dhoni, and Bravo are all excellent TR20 players. Watson hit form in the previous match while Raina has been in good touch too. If Rayadu can get some runs at the top of the order then CSK will be working at full capacity.
SR Watson, Ambati Rayudu, SK Raina, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, SN Thakur, Imran Tahir.
The Rajasthan Royals batted exceptionally against the Sunrisers in their previous match but could not defend that total. As a result, they face the prospect of three consecutive losses if they cannot win against Chennai in this match.
The batting was a huge plus for the Rajasthan Royals against the Sunrisers. Sanju Samson scored the first century of IPL 2019 and showed just why he is regarded as one of the most talented batsmen in the country. Ajinkya Rahane also played a very good knock to help set up the stage for the Rajasthan Royals.
Jos Buttler is in good touch as well and that makes the Rajasthan Royals top-3 very dangerous.
Unfortunately, it appears that the rest of the batting lineup is not quite firing yet. Ben Stokes has not been the power-hitting all-rounder the side expects him to be and Steve Smith has not had enough time in the middle.
With only Rahul Tripathi and K Gowtham to follow, the onus of scoring runs has to be on the top-order.
The bowling attack for the Rajasthan Royals has now been found short on two occasions and some concerns would be appearing in the camp. Jofra Archer appears to be the lone class performer in a bowling attack that seems to have put faith in the wrong people.
K Gowtham and Jaidev Unadkat are among the higher paid individuals of the side but they do not seem to have done anything of note to deserve that. Both of them have been giving away runs and are not picking up any wickets either.
Dhawal Kulkarni has been ineffective with the new ball as well. Ben Stokes keeps on plugging away but he is not going to be able to win matches on his own every single time.
Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, SV Samson, Steven Smith, BA Stokes, RA Tripathi, K Gowtham, Jofra Chioke Archer, JD Unadkat, S Gopal, DS Kulkarni.
The toss is going to be crucial in Chennai. The team batting second will have a big advantage since it will know what score it has to chase on a surface where scoring is difficult. Expect the team winning the toss to field first.

CSK vs RR IPL 2019 match is going to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The weather is expected to be hot and humid, nothing that is going to make the cricket pause. As far as the pitch goes, we are all hoping for something better from the groundsman this time around but it does not seem likely.
The pitch is going to assist the spinners and make scoring difficult for the batsmen. Getting runs against the new ball is going to be crucial and a score of about 150-160 is going to be very difficult to chase down.
The previous match in Chennai showed the importance of having spinners in your Dream 11 side and this is exactly what we have tried to do.
Wicketkeeper: The choice here is between MS Dhoni and Jos Buttler. Since Dhoni is batting too far down the order, we are picking Jos Buttler for our team.
Batsmen: We have veered from the obvious choices and gone with players who are good against spin. Suresh Raina, Amabati Rayadu, Steve Smith, and Kedar Jadhav. All of these batsmen also bat in the top-4 and have a reasonable chance of getting some time in the middle.
All-Rounders: We have maximized our allowance in this category and picked three players. Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and K Gowtham are the players we have settled with. Jadeja is very difficult to face on spinning tracks while Bravo's cutters will be very effective as well. K Gowtham has not been impressive so far but this is the surface where he has the best chance to shine.
Bowlers: We now have space for three bowlers and so we are picking Imran Tahir, Jaidev Unadkat, and Shreyas Gopal. Tahir is our pick to be the most effective bowler in Chennai while Jaidev Unadkat is better on slower surfaces than he is on flat batting surfaces. Shreyas Gopal is another spinner that is sure to play in the team and bowl his quota of overs.
Captain and Vice Captain: We have picked Imran Tahir as our Dream 11 captain and Ravindra Jadeja as the vice-captain. On a pitch where the spinners are expected to rule, these two could be very handy point scorers for the side.
CSK has lost to Rajasthan Royals in two out of the last five matches they have played against each other. At home, though, CSK has been more dominant. We think that the conditions in Chepauk are ideally suited to Dhoni and his men. Getting past them will be difficult for the Rajasthan Royals who may have to wait for their first victory in IPL 2019.
Back the Chennai Super Kings to win.
