Cape Town Blitz has been the best team of the Mzansi Super League and they proved that once again with a brutal thumping of Paarl Rocks. That win got them a bonus point and put them in an excellent position to finish top of the table. There is a big incentive of making the final of the MSL by finishing first so we are certain that Cape Town Blitz would like to nail that position down as soon as possible.
They will be against the worst team of the MSL this season. Durban Heat has an excellent set of players that have conspired to lose matches from some very strong positions. Even in the last match against the Jozi Stars, they seemed to have the result in the bag before losing it.
There was a bit of a question mark over the bowling lineup of Cape Town Blitz before the Mzansi Super League began. Dale Steyn was returning from injury and the others did not have too much of experience. Phehlukwayo is a seasoned international player but his bowling is not going to be scoring off anyone soon.
Thanks to the form of Dale Steyn, though, Cape Town Blitz has a good bowling lineup to depend on. Steyn was never as successful at T20 cricket as he was at the longer formats of the game but we believe he is bowling the best he has ever bowled in the MSL.
He is getting wickets consistently and his economy rate is absolutely incredible. His form has allowed the likes of Siboto, Nawaz, Phehlukwayo, and Burger to build pressure and get some favorable results as well.
As far as the batting goes, Cape Town Blitz has an in-form Quinton de Kock on its side and we believe there are no better batsmen in limited overs cricket when he is going like that. He has a century in the Mzansi Super League already, scored 93 in the last match, and has the bowlers at his complete mercy.
We have said before in the past that Quinton de Kock has the ability to go on scoring sprees and he is doing exactly that.
Consistent runs from Janneman Malan has helped the side win as well. With batters like Dawid Malan, Asif Ali, Farhaan Behardien, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Mohammad Nawaz, Cape Town Blitz is not going to be short of runs in most matches.
A good side filled with quality players and playing to form. What else could you need to get on the Cape Town blitz train?
Quinton de Kock, Janneman Malan, Dawid Malan, Asif Ali, Farhaan Behardien, Andile Phehlukwayo, Mohammad Nawaz, Ferisco Adams, DW Steyn, MP Siboto, Nandre Burger.
Durban Heat has been the biggest disappointment for us in this first season of the Mzansi Super League. There are so many good international players in the side but the whole team as a unit has just failed to come together.
The batting collapsed in the last match once again and could only score a total of 128. Same Erwee scored 62 from the top of the order but no one really contributed. Batsmen like Morne van Wyk, Temba Bavuma, Khaya Zondo, David Miller, Albie Morkel, Rashid Khan, Kyle Abbott, and Merchant de Lange.
These are all players with a significant amount of international experience behind them. Some of these players like David Miller and Rashid Khan are considered to be among the most valuable players playing T20 cricket.
It comes as a shock then that Durban Heat has crashed out of contention for the playoffs and is going to finish the bottom of the table.
It is difficult for a team to lift itself from such a position because the players start to lose motivation. Still, individual pride in one’s performance comes to the fore and that will always make Durban Heat a dangerous opponent.
We think the addition of Rashid Khan to the side is going to improve the bowling a lot, although, giving away 12 runs from the last two balls of the match to lose would have dented the confidence of the team.
Kyle Abbott and Merchant de Lange are quality bowlers, though, and should be able to come back strongly. The contest between Rashid Khan and Quinton de Kock is going to be one that we think could decide the outcome of the match.
The batting for Durban Heat is a problem. Unless David Miller or one of the top-3 plays an incredible individual inning, the side is going to struggle for runs. Depending on individual brilliance is not something we like doing because the unpredictability is too much.
Sarel Erwee, Mv Wyk, Hashim Amla, Khaya Zondo, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, K Maharaj, Rashid Khan, KY Abbott, Marchant de Lange, T Bokako.
The side winning the toss is likely to bat first

The weather forecast has predicted a dry day in Cape Town with no chance of rain. That is something that should be music to everyone’s ears considering the number of matches that have been wiped out by rain in the Mzansi Super League.
Newlands offers up some of the best batting pitches in South Africa and we think that a high scoring match could be played out.
Cape Town Blitz in this form is likely to beat every team that it comes across. A strong bowling unit led by Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock in brilliant form is a difficult proposition to pass up on. Durban Heat is in a losing rut where it seems to catch all the possible bad luck.
Back Cape Town Blitz to win.
