CTB vs JZS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 16, 2018

The inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League is drawing to a close and we have what we think are the two best teams competing for the prize. Cape Town Blitz will be taking on the Jozi Stars to try and be the first champions of the MSL.

The manner in which both these teams got to the final was a bit anticlimactic. Cape Town Blitz dominated the league stage of the tournament and became the first team to get a berth in the final. The Jozi Stars were scheduled to play Paarl Rocks in the MSL Eliminator but continuous rain made that match impossible to take place.

The Jozi Stars had finished above Paarl Rocks in the MSL league standings and thus qualified for the Mzansi Super League final without bowling a ball or scoring a run in the Eliminator.

Which of these two sides will win the MSL final?

CTB vs JZS Team Previews

Cape Town Blitz

No team has been as consistent or dominant in the MSL as Cape Town Blitz has been. They won six out of the ten matches in group league, the same as Jozi Stars, but Cape Town Blitz has lost the least number of matches of any team.

The reason that Cape Town Blitz has been so dominant in the MSL can be put down to the brilliant form of Quinton de Kock. He has scored 407 runs in just seven innings at an average of 67.83. The thing about Quinton de Kock is that he scores his runs at a strike rate of 174.67 and ends up putting the match beyond the reach of the opposition.

De Kock is quite possibly the most dangerous batsman in the world in the shortest format of the game when he is on song. He is also someone who is a confidence player. With the amount of runs he has scored in the Mzansi Super League already, he is going to be the biggest wicket for the opposition.

It’s not all about Quinton de Kock, though. Janneman Malan has also been very good with more than 300 runs to his name. The biggest risk that Cape Town Blitz has is the loss of its two openers early in the game.

The next best batsman aftet de Kock and Janneman Malan is Asif Ali with 146 runs to his name. No one else has scored more than 100 runs for the side.

Players like Dawid Malan, Andile Phehlukwayo, Farhaan Behardien, and Mohammad Nawaz help the side have plenty of batting depth. Any one of these players could play a match winning inning in the final of Mzansi Super League.

Dale Steyn has been brilliant with the ball and is our favourite bowler of the tournament. His contest against the top-order of the Jozi Stars could be decisive to the outcome of the match.

Quinton de Kock, Dawid Malan, Kyle Verreynne, Farhaan Behardien, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Andile Phehlukwayo, Ferisco Adams, DW Steyn, MP Siboto, Nandre Burger.

Jozi Stars

The Jozi Stars may not have had to do anything in the ELimnator but there is no one that can deny they deserve a place in the final of the MSL. They have two of the three highest scorers of the tournament in their side, the highest wicket taker, and have scored the highest total of the MSL.

They also managed to defeat Cape Town Blitz quite comprehensively the last time they played against them.

The Jozi Stars are in no way the underdog in this match. They come to play Cape Town Blitz on equal footing and with an equal chance to win.

Reeza Hendricks and van der Dussen have set the tournament alight with their batting. Hendricks has already hit two centuries and two fifties in the MSL already while van der Dussen has three fifties to his name and a best score of 96 not out.

With a strong batting order to back these two players up comprising of players like Dane Vilas, Rickelton, and the powerful Dan Christian, the Jozi Stars can actually boast of a stronger batting lineup than Cape Town Blitz.

The Jozi Stars also have a fantastic bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada. Duanne Olivier has 18 wickets to his name and is the leading wicket taker of the MSL right now. With Beuran Hendricks, Simon Harmer, and Dwayne Pretorius in the bowling attack also, it will take something special from Cape Town Blitz to be able to post a big total.

Big players come to the part in big matches and it seems like Jozi Stars have more of such players at the moment.
